What wheels fit what ?

  1. So I understand that the only difference between the 748/9** front wheel and the 848/EVO/SF front wheel is the disc offset, 10mm vs 15mm, the number of dics mounting bolts, 6 vs 5 and the speedo drive spacer. My question is about the rear wheel because I have been reading a post on a US forum from 2008 that states there is a difference between the Marchesini 916 "style" 10 spoke, 3 spoke and 5 spoke where the 5 spoke doesn't have the clearance for the 848 brake caliper. Unfortunately the Marchesini web site doesn't go into any detail. Is there any knowledge or experience in the "collective" that can verify this for me please ? Thanks, Andy

  2. dont know if this answer your question 100% but i know for a fact the 848 10 spoke OEM rear fits the monster s2r/s4r and 998 no problems. My 998 OEM 5 spoke rear wheel fits the monster but it had a straight valve stem which fouled the s2r caliper, i installed a right angle valve stem (about 13 quid from a duc dealer) and it was all fine and dandy. i think this would be the only reason a 916 /996 3 spoke would not fit he 848 i believe (but am not 100% certain)

the 10 spoke forged from the 998 (same as 848) fits monster s2r no probs cos the valve is not in centre of rim like the 5 spokes, the stem on the 10 spoke wheel is set in line with the spokes

  3. Don't know if this helps but on my project bike I fitted a 848 caliper, hanger and disc on a 916 type swing arm. 5 spoke marchesini ali wheel fitted fine. I then bought a set of forged magnesium marchesini and found the rear didn't fit as the caliper fouled the spokes. I got round the issue by fitting a slimmer ISR caliper.

  4. Thanks Danger Mouse, I think that is the point, it's the magnesium alloy wheel that is for some reason different. Hey ho, there goes the idea of fitting the mag alloys I've got kicking around going on a street fighter. Andy

  5. I don't know specifically about the 916 family wheels but certainly (on normal swingarm wheels) there was a big difference between the marchesini rim which bought separately and the OEM fitment mag rims.

My rear wheel for instance has a different one piece cush drive and carrier which differs from the OEM fitment ones supplied on the later SS's. I don't know if this might cause the fit to be different?

They used to have just one blank for each of the widths and machine out the centres accordingly and then supply a fitting kit, with the bearings and spacers being the bike specific components if that makes any sense. perhaps their OEM fitment wheels were designed differently on a manufacturer specific pattern possibly?

  6. if the wheel is 998/848 then it wont fit a street fighter anyway cos of the centre size and nut
