Mucking about with the calipers I have for sale yesterday I noticed that both of them have the remains of a dot of Blue paint roughly applied on the body behind where the pad retaining pins exit. I think these older Calipers use an R type clip through the pin at this point, and was wondering if it was used as some form of indication that the clip had been fitted. Has anyone seen this before?
Never seen it but I suspect that you're right. When my Supersport came back from it's first service it had lots of yellow paint marks next to every fastener that had been disturbed.
Those dots wouldn't be for check-torque purposes to indicate loosening/movement of the retaining pins, as would ordinarily be the case for nuts/bolts, so perhaps it's a QC mark Brembo apply during initial manufacture. Ducati often use blue or green dots on the top of the forks, though these are usually stickers not paint.
