Panigale V4 Failed Rear Shock Bearing?

Discussion in 'Suspension help' started by V4Clint, Apr 6, 2025.

  1. Thoughts on whether being able to twist the shock clockwise/anti-clockwise in the top mount is normal or a potential issue and what might have caused it after only 9k miles. Thanks

  2. Most Ohlins stuff has some small movement in the bearing. I’m not familiar with the specific model shock but most do

  3. Could be a rose joint type bearing. If so. Small amount of rotary movement between the seals quite normal. However there should be no up and down freeplay at all. Easiest way to test for up and down freeplay is to try and feel for movement by lifting the rear when the shock has topped out. Very unlikely at that milage.

  4. Looking at the D16RR rear shock I’ve got, the shock is clamped on the rose joint so there will be some rotary (around the vertical axis) play. Obviously with the shock in my hand, I can’t tell how much play. Andy

  5. It's a special bearing with o-rings or felt washers either side the keep it centred. This will always allow some movement.
