Carbon Airbox lid

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Geo7863, May 26, 2012.

  1. I would have Guilt over chopping the top off it... :upyeah:

  2. Me too, thats a lot to pay if you're going to chop the bugger up...

Suppose you could always use it as a cup holder in the shed :upyeah:

  3. I didnt chop the top off mine!...just chopped up two mega-rare 888 carbon inlet trumpets and stuck them in the top as well :upyeah:

  4. Pity it is stuck under the tank where no-one will ever see it. Apart from the AA man I guess

  5. Its not just about looks though is it...its about weight reduction too... for the weight obsessed that is..... I decided to weigh some bits (for the first time ever!) yesterday.

standard Aluminium clutch cover = 203g
    magnesium clutch cover = 137g
    Titanium Clutch cover = 97g
    Carbon Clutch Cover = 67g

so whilst I dont particularly like the look of unpainted carbon... it is gosh darn jolly light!

  6. I can not imagine the standard lid is made of lead though. Might have to chop the top off mine, that will save weight :)

  7. I also have a heavily modified OEM steel clutch cover, maybe only 60% of the cover is still there with all the holes I made in it yet that weighs in at 193g!.... so by using the carbon clutch cover I can now munch my way through more Ginsters pasties!

  8. Once you cut the top of a normal lid its going to wiegh next to bugger all and its not visible with the tank on so seems a bit of useless bling.

  9. Cut the top off the carbon one and it will weigh even less than 'next to bugger all'!

  10. In which case, why bother to have the b*gger on there at all............Bang! Right toe, was it George?
