  1. Evening all, just purchased a 2013 1200s. Bit of an upgrade from the 800gs but hopefully for the better!

  2. I have had my 2012 1200 for a little over a year. I went from a zzr1100 and the difference was night and day. They are just incredible machines. I a, sure you will love it.

  9. Thanks all. Looking forward to getting it on the road!

A bit of the background to this bike, it was bought brand new by the previous owner, rode for just 1 year and has then been parked up in a garage ever since so only has 1300 miles on it. Need to give it a flush through of all fluids and probably change the belts, although they look brand new!

  12. Sounds like a great find. Check tyres, depending on storage conditions they maybe past their best.

  13. It was more the belts I was worried about, they do look like brand new but how much do I push it?

  14. The belt replacement shedule is based on age or mileage, whichever reached first. Varies and is longer on more recent bikes. On the 1260 I believe it's 18000 miles (Desmo service) or 5 years, whichever comes first. For your bike the mileage and time may well be shorter. Whatever, if your bike was ridden for one year then put in storage, even if they were replaced before storage, it's long overdue. With bikes left long term, I understand that the belt will take on the shape of their standing static shape. Not ideal when it's run.

  15. I’d be changing those belts ASAP, just not worth the risk.

  17. Going to attempt the belt change on Monday, anyone know of any good videos to watch showing the initial timing to set before undoing the belts? Most I’ve watched doesn’t really concentrate on showing how they’ve times it before removing belts.

    TIA

  18. The best one I’ve seen is Practical Enthusiast on YouTube who does it as part of his series on his MTS1200. That’s where I learned to do it from. I’ll have my own video up in a few weeks but probably not before you’ve already done it.

  19. thanks, I think I’ve watched him. Assuming the general how to is the same for all the 1200 engines, looks like the cam is timed up, mark the belts, swap them over then tension each individually at TDC? Mines at 2013 and a couple of the videos have been slightly different where one done it to 95hz and another to 110hz
