I have a really tidy Ohlins clad 2001 996SPS. It’s done about 15k and had a sympathetic refresh about 4 or 5 years ago now, where everything was stripped and rebuilt and loads of new fasteners fitted etc. im thinking of selling it as an R has crossed my paths and wondered if people had any experience of market conditions with such a bike recently? I spoke to my Ducati specialist who looks after it (well respected guy!) about valuations as he has looked after it for the last 5 years and he said due to its condition and model he would estimate its value around £19k! whilst i dont want to undersell, i also dont want to over sell - welcome anyone’s feedback or input before I write up an advert for it (should the R come off)
I would say £19K is a little low compared to current offerings of the same model. Whether they're selling is another matter but around £23K is where I would start pitching. You can always come down but not up! https://www.carandclassic.com/search?category=15&make=ducati&model=996-sps&source=search-bar
One sold on Iconic auctions early this year. Cannot remember the price, but they do publish results and auction deals tend to cut through the optimistic price valuations.
I never trust the auction houses on stuff like this. A genuine foggy rep sold through hampsons auctions last year and only made about 15-16j from memory, but every other doggy is mid to high twenties and still selling

My thoughts on that are one that someone got a bit of a bargain, and two it is a different model to mine which does always command slightly less from what I’ve seen. but do appreciate all feedback. personally I think it’s value sits somewhere in the high teens 18/19 ish
Lovely bike, but depends on how fast you want to sell yours. I personally had bikes for sale for over 2 years and even then they were reduced by a bit from what a dealer initially valued. Anything around 20k, many would look for a r model for a few k more instead of a sps. Mileage at 15k also would be a bit high for any premiums in price imho. But it is summer so best of luck with sell.
In the 20k range you get some Rs. The last one that went on Collecting Cars was under £20k. There are not so many later SPS in the market at the moment and yours looks very nice. But £19k feels a little upper range. Few 1999 out there have not shifted in a very long time. And you can see that prices have come down an easy 20-30% since the highs of COVID. In terms of SPS, it seems like the earlier ones seem to fetch better money as they were made in smaller numbers - 1997 and 1998. Eventually, I will be in the market for one, but I think it will be an R although I do love an sps engine. Good luck with the sale.
Absolutely fair comment. I’ve whacked it on Car and Classic and it’s pretty much the cheapest on there so will see how it goes. I’d say it’s definitely one of the nicest examples available for sale. Anyone who likes it can always reach out and make an offer that they feel is fair, and if I’m happy with it then happy days!
