Chain And Sprocket Replacement.

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Alan Hawes, May 4, 2025.

  1. Hi i have a 2018 1260s Multistrada and looking to replace the chain and sprockets.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement make please.

  2. I've used DID X-RING Gold 530 ZVMX on both my 1260 Multis, along with Esjot or JT sprockets. Bought a JT rear sprocket carrier for my previous bike and will be doing the same for the Pikes Peak once the current rear is at end of life.

  4. Another one for DID chain I like the stealth 2 piece sprockets as lighter but hard wearing steel tooth section but you don't a secondary carrier like some of the two part sprockets. You can use standard cush drive inserts etc as well. Although I did get poncey sprocket CNC carrier as why not haha

Maybe different on multi but the 1299 is terrible gearing around town so I upped rear 2 teeth and made things far nicer

  6. On my previous 1260 I changed from the standard 15/40 to 14/40 which worked well for me. Ideally 15/42 but for the JT carrier finding a 42T rear at the time was a wild goose chase. There are quite a few carriers from different manufacturers but they all seem to be interchangeable as far as I could tell. Wound up fitting the 14T front in the end. As said, this worked well, top end isn't important in the real world for me and anyway, not sure if it would rev out on std gearing in 6th anyway.

The 14T front made it far better around town/low speed. This combined with the throttle spacer and the exhaust flapper valve delete improves the bike no end IMHO.

The only issue with the 14T, theoretical, is a chance of wear on the swingarm but I didn't experience this over about 10,000 miles. There are guides/protectors on the swingarm and they looked fine.

When I bought my Pikes Peak late last year the dealer fitted an OEM chain and sprocket kit, didn't ask but they did it anyway as the existing one was close to shot. No charge so nice touch from Riders of Bridgwater:upyeah: I've since replaced the awful OEM chain with a DID Gold ZVMX and at the same time I bought a 14T JT front, haven't fitted that yet but a ride last week confirmed, in my mind, that I do need to do this before there's any appreciable wear on the rear sprocket or newer chain.
