Just received a renewal quote (£175) same as last year even with an extra 12 months NCB, did a quick search and found a much cheaper (£110 quote). It obviously pays to shop around.
Its a shame - they used to be very good. I remember buying relatively cheap bikes (<£2k) for the odd trip, and they would happily insure/add them to my policy for around £40. I think I'll be shopping around next year, mine did seem rather high at renewal - around £700 (with Be Moto) bikes ages from 2000 - 2023, full no claims. I put it down to recently adding a newer bike, but reading the comments here it looks like I may be better off having the older bikes and the newer machine insured separately - no point of having one multi-bike policy if its more expensive.
Underwriters have not been allowed to pay commission for a while so brokers have been charging customers administration fees. Cornmarket charge an arrangement fee (was £40 last year) and a policy change fee (currently £50) for each separate change. At the back of my mind, I have a suspicion some brokers are jumping on the impending increase in employment taxation to significantly increase their charges. Andy
Blimey, that will be a reasonable return if they renew a few policies an hour, don't even have to do anything if nothing has changed.
Especially as they were already making a profit, like everyone else. Its just another scam, like the admin fee when you buy a car. Just say no!
yeah the guy I spoke to sounded like he was putting the washing out of playing x box, far cry from the people you used to speak to a few years ago who used to ask how the bike was and had genuine interest and knowledge. To the point about brokers not paying commission, not sure this is true as the voice queue says that they will receive commission for sales. So clearly has to just come from the customer saying yes. finally the thing that annoyed me more, was they send the renewal quote and nowhere on it does it have the phone number, it says ‘contact us’ to discuss renewal but no where do they give a number so you have to hunt around the web for it. It’s just another stupid little tactic to put barriers in place that make customers think ‘oh sod it I’ll stick with them’
BeMoto were always impossible to get hold of at renewal time, so I eventually had to ditch them through stress. I had the usual nonsense trying to insure a new model (I met the same problem with the 959 and S1000RR). Nobody lists it, so you have to call everyone to explain they only list upto 2024 and many then won't even bother quoting. As with my 1299, about the only people that would insure it were Ducati insurance (who are actually bikesure). I have two major gripes with the policy, however as usual there is nothing I can do because I have to have insurance: I live in London and keep the bike in Northamptonshire. Despite always offering to sign a piece of paper to say it will never go inside the M25, they all insist on also considering my London address to bump up my premium. I know for a fact (from my original move) that this adds another 50% to what my Northants policies were costing. The Ducati Insurance policy included a £600 broker fee!! Most insurance for you guys isn't even this much, so to charge that just as a fee is outrageous. The insurance industry needs more transparency. It is a licence to print money and they seem to just pull figures out of the air as suits them. Never mind all these PPI and discretionary commission claims.... when do we get to reclaim all the money we have over paid to insurance companies over the years because we have had no choice?
Had my Bemoto renewal through a couple of days ago for the PP, £560 inc £60 broker fee, I don't have overnight storage that qualifies as a garage, just a good, fortified wooden shed, hence the high price. Did a comparison site search, and Bennetts on their website, they were £422, and on the comparison were £402, some were cheaper but possibly not as suitable. Phoned Bemoto yesterday to give them the chance to sharpen their pencil a bit, came down about £12, I said they were miles off and would probably go elsewhere, the response was just, oh ok just let us know.
Got sick of ringing round for a decent multi bike policy for my 3 bikes, 1977 Laverda Jota/ 1997 916 Bip/ 2019 z1000sx...so got an individual policy for each one from different providers , a bit of a faff but quite a lot cheaper than the best multi quote.
