Featured 916 Alloy Coolant Tank

  1. Morning All,

At the end of February there was a thread asking if there was a source of or anyone who could make an alloy coolant tank.

A member from here reached out to a company called Pro Alloy Motorsport who signed up here and reached out saying they could probably manufacture the tanks but would need a bike to work out the design on.

The thread got pulled after that for reasons unknown.

Before it was pulled I'd got in touch with Chris at Pro Alloy and offered him the use of my bike, in exchange for this he gave me the first tank they made for free.

Below are pictures of that tank, I believe Pro Alloy will put these into production for people to buy but as I have no affiliation with them beyond loaning them my bike I have no idea of prices, timeslines etc.

The quality of the tank is excellent and it's a really good fit in the frame, as you can see they've managed to fit 2 p clips to the frame to hold the tank nicely in place instead of it being free to bounce around like the original.

As I've said I've no links to the company but I'd happily buy one, I've made this post to round off the original thread from February as there was alot of interest in if these tanks could be done.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

  2. Very nice, like the engraving makes it look trick and the eye glass is a good touch well done for chasing it all up,

  3. I don’t have a bike that needs one, but credit where credits due. That’s a nice custom bit of kit. I like the puddle welds on the bracket! Looks Factory!

  4. Looks like a really good bit of work. I like that they've bent/shaped the top panel & done the welds away from the edge :upyeah:

  5. Tbh, it looks a lot better made than the original alloy tank did. I bet they’d also make one without the bracket puddle welded on the top for the 996R / 998 bikes, if asked.

  6. Yes this is a must upgrade. The OEM plastic expansion tanks will eventually fail at the seam. I purchased one of the original after market alloy tanks back in the day due to two OEM failures. No problem for over 20 years.

  7. Thanks for following this up, I was following the earlier thread and wondered where it had gone! I'll get in touch and ask what the cost / timescales are as I definitely want one, I think we've bought 4 or 5 now for the 2000 plate 996.

  8. What a lovely looking thing. I also made contact with Pro-alloy but sadly my situation meant I couldn’t get my bike to them. However you did and wow, true to their word you have the first. Now off to their website to see if they have a price up yet. I want!

  9. Nice looking piece and a worthy upgrade.

My original tank lasted for years, I then went through 3 replacements in short order - one failing on the first ride!

I'd be getting one if I hadn't already got the USA made version years back, which has been fine but it's more utilitarian and not sculpted like that and was tricky to fit due to it's shape, works fine though.

  10. Hello everyone. I created the initial thread, but it was deleted because it violated forum rules. Luckily, someone offered to take their bike to ProAlloy. I spoke with Chris, and he told me that production will start soon, but they're still working on it. We'll soon be able to enjoy this fantastic piece. Best regards.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  11. How on earth is this violating rules. It’s offering a solution to a quite popular problem that will only increase as bikes get older. thanks for initiating this Pepe.

  12. Could we get ProAlloy on here as a provider with a Forum discount ?
    I am in whatever happens.

  13. The guy from Pro-alloy was on the original thread.
No idea if he’s still in the group maybe admin could tag him if he is??

  14. We sent him a pm from the original thread with no reply

  15. if someone really wanted to, they could bypass all of this and just phone Pro-Alloy for the latest news on availability, and I suspect it's just as Pepe has said. Yesterday I went right through their online catalogue and couldn't find it amongst the many header tanks. When available, it looks to me as though it will be around the £300/350 mark approx.

  16. I’ve contacted Pro-alloy they said to subscribe to their mailing list to get an announcement when it will be available for purchase. They also said prices were being finalised.

  17. Out of interest what were the grounds for deleting the original thread? could something be changed in the rules in future to alleviate threads where members can benefit from a project like this?

  18. That's between admin and the forum member
The thread is hidden until we have a response and member benefits would be discussed as part of that conversation
Hence the rules that everyone signs up too regarding advertising
    Hope that helps

  19. We also have forum traders that contribute to the forum and we have to be fair to those members also
