  2. I don't know if this helps but there must be a better way right? You'll know a sparky type or perhaps you can do this yourself?

Maybe you can call them and get advice too.

  3. The simple and cheap answer is to turn the sensor off in the control box which is usually achieved with a combination of the small switches you'll find inside.

I turned it off on one of my doors as the sensor was playing up and have left it like that.
I did the same on a neighbours as he kept getting gravel under the sensor and finding his door had opened after he walked away and the door had been open all night.

Of course you have to be careful not to close it on to something.

I've also set mine to open and close with one click rather than have to keep your finger on the button, but I did install them myself from a kit.

  4. I think this is quite a neat solution. I will take a look tomorrow. Cheers.

  5. Sounds like you have resolved the issue. I had a similar issue - it turned out to be a safety lock on the mechamism to prevent the door from coming down if there is a mechanical failure. This was preventing the door from opening/closing. I used Avon Garage Doors who were brilliant!

  6. Had a similar issue with my Garadoor up-and-over door. It was stopping partially closed. Found an online manual with instructions on how to reset the limits which involved disconnecting power, whilst pressing a button on the main unit. It has worked as expected since.

  7. Electric roller garage doors are one of the biggest scams around.
The amount that’s charged for fitting and servicing them is completely unrealistic when you realise how simple they are to fit and look after.

When I replaced my two up and over doors with them a few years ago I soon discovered I could buy the exact same doors from the manufacturer for @75% of what the distributors/installers wanted.
Then looking at fitting them I saw through the scaremongering the installers spout about how difficult it is.
The fitting element of the quotes I had ranged from £1,500 to £2,200.

I started ripping out the old doors and frames about 09.00hrs on a Saturday morning and had both fitted and up and running by @14.00hrs.
I needed Lady Nashers help in the middle for about an hour just to lift and hold the units in place whilst I drilled holes and added screws, apart from that I did it all on my own.
How the installers can justify the prices they charge and the time they take I don’t know.

The doors came with full sets of instructions, including all the setting up and maintenance that installers don’t want you to have so they can come back and charge you a fortune for easy work.

  8. Absoluteley……

Me Dad had a roller shutter installed back in the 70’s it worked faultlessly for well over 25 years, just the occasional greasing of the runners. Mind it wasn’t opened/closed by an electric motor just a normal pull-down job.

  9. Had mine fitted over 3 years ago (Aluroll) and the sensor box works in tandem with a wire that runs inside the rubber strip at the bottom of the roller door, that detects when pressure is applied. If it detects any change before the door is fully closed it interprets this as an object in the way and then raises 6 inches back up and stops. Could it be your door has a similar setup. Does rather sound as though it is your sensor box at fault though, given you have changed the batteries. In terms of servicing, my installer mentioned the importance of keeping the slats clean, inside and out, as any dirt or grime on them will end up being transferred in between the slats and into the roller mechanism when the door retracts, causing a grinding paste, so I regularly give them a wipe down.

I got tired of hunting for the remotes or using the internal wall control boxes to open and close the doors, so I installed some Meross Wifi modules off Amazon and fitted them into the control boxes, so now they can be opened/closed via Home Assistant, the Meross app or by voice using Alexa (in conjunction with a pin code), from any location or I can use a geofence script so they open as I approach the driveway and close after a set time period. A lot easier than fumbling for a remote when I am on the bike.

  10. That's an interesting point Topolino.

I currently carry a remote for my garage doors in my pocket, stop on the last flat bit about 20yards from the doors, take a glove off, fish out the remote and hit the button.
Although not the end of the world it can be a little annoying. First world problem obviously!
My drive is quite steep, too steep to park a bike on a side stand facing the garage, so I have to either turn the bike round and roll backwards or open the door remotely to drive in forwards.

The rearview mirror in my car has programmable buttons that can be used to open Gates, doors etc, and although the car doesn't live in the garage I do use it to open the doors if I'm coming home with stuff that needs unloading into it.

I'm wondering if the latest Multistradas have anything similar built in?
I've not seen it in my 1260 manual, but the V4 may have it.

  11. The Meross units definitely simplify your life, especially if you use the geofence solution, since you don't even need to access your phone to open them. I wrote a simple automation in home assistant that I activate whenever I leave the house on the bike, or if you really want to go one step further you can use a Cardo or Sena headset in conjunction with Alexa to open it using a voice command. The openers are relatively easy to install and not expensive:

I did include some photos of the install in this thread (see post #107):

  12. Thanks Topolino, some of the words in your post are vaguely familiar to me, but I'm a simple mechanical engineer with a hatred of anything to do with phones and always look for the simplest solution.
