1260 Another Screen Query

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Rawdon, May 13, 2025.

  1. Having dome a few hundred miles on my multi now ive realised that the standard screen is truly awful for turbulence (even worse than my BMW S1000XR) so I'm looking at getting a shorter screen as this seems to be the common solution, especfor taller people - I'm 6'5"
2 questions- has anyone tried one of the pikes peak copy screens, is the quality any good, especially the bach and is it vented like the PP.
And has anybody tried cutting a hole in the puig sport (or touring) screen where it looks like there should be a slot similar to the pikes peak to reduce turbulence? As picture

  2. Im 6' 5" as well and the screen along with the high seat on the highest setting completely destroys my gen 2 XR. Ive got the multistrand V4 Rally which I think is wider screen wise compared to the older V twin, maybe try a wider screen ?

  3. This was my solution, powebronze short screen with iconic spacers, not perfect but it puts the wind across my chest rather than my head IMG_20240809_171026793 (1).jpg

  4. Puig sports screen, with Puig deflector and Palmer Products bracket, got me to where I wanted to be.

    Hope you get sorted:)

  5. I'm a lanky shit and I've found two solutions after trying manyyyy screens.

The puig sports screen with the 3d printed spacers (I didn't like the iconic spacers, very heavy and ugly imo) works great for all day riding.

I also use the OEM PP screen for shorter rides which provides a much cleaner air flow to the head. I also was curious about the aftermarket PP screen and simply decided it's not worth the risk and ended up buying an OEM one on the forums.

One thing that has become evidently clear, you'll never remove buffering or wind, the screen is simply too narrow. There are some insanely sized screens that will give you no wind whilst riding... But it looks horrible.

  6. On my previous Multi 1260s I tried quite a few options; std, Puig touring, Puig sport, Touratech and wound up using the std screen with Iconic spacers. Now have a Pikes Peak 1260 and I'm use a Puig Sport screen with the same spacers. The PP carbon screen was just too low/exposed for me (keeping it in case I ever sell the bike though).

I'm 6' tall. Lots of other variables such as helmet help hinder the turbulence.

  7. My 1260 Enduro was fitted with a Puig taller screen by the previous owner who also passed on the standard screen with the bike when I collected it.

Apologies, I’m not sure how relevant any of the below is to non-Enduro Multistradas as I’ve not ridden one or taken much notice of their screens.

Only ever having had Naked and Sports bikes in the past the ride home on the MS was a revelation to me.
Sitting at, Cough, 70MPH in a pocket of still air with no buffeting of my Helmet or pressure was a completely new experience, it’s even possible to ride with my visor partly open.
I’m 6’ and that’s with the screen at it’s lowest height setting.

But I’m thinking of trying the standard screen for safety reasons.

My eyeline is above the top of the extra height screen with it in it’s lowest position, but immediately below my eyeline is the top of the screen with a curve in it, which effectively creates a blind spot. The image above doesn't show it very well.
I can see what’s going on ahead perfectly well 99% of the time, but I’ve had a couple of ‘Moments’ recently.
Following a car at a safe distance the car has driven over something in the road, straddling it rather than physically driving over it.
On both occasions a small log or branch broken from a tree by a lorry.

After it comes out from under the back of the car the item is initially hidden from sight by the curve of the top of the screen, so I haven’t seen them until they have come into view under the curved bit at the top of the screen which reduced the time I have to react to them being I the middle of the road.

As I say, I’ll try the standard screen.

  8. I found the standard screen with a Wunderlich deflector worked for me on long tours and the pikes peak for normal shorter rides. The advantage of this deflector is you can adjust it to get a much smoother air flow. There are cheaper Chinese copies available but not as well made)

  9. I see that you also have the Iconic spacers fitted too.

  10. I did have them but to be honest I didn’t think they made that much difference.

  11. I'm using a WRS short screen on my 1200DVT which gets rid of a lot (not all) of the buffeting. I'm wondering the the genuine PP screen has a slot in it - the WRS doesn't - and whether that makes any difference?
If it wasn't keeping my phone out of the direct windblast (mounted on the screen pillar) I'd be tempted to cut the WRS even lower which I think (after extensive head positioning experiments) would reduce turbulence (although not wind blast) even more.
