Did a 900ssie that came with a steel swing arm mean it was a Sport? And an Aluminium mean Supersport? What are the differences between a Sport and a Supersport?
Not sure of all the details, but fairly certain the sport has non adjustable forks. I have a 1999 ssie that has the same ali swingarm as the carbie. I believe the more shaped ali swingarm is from the 1000.
Thanks, I have seen two swing arms, Steel and Ally. As you say the Ally one looks like the carb 900ss swing arm. Forks, both bikes have adjustable Showa's
This one here is a sport: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/who-got-this-bargain.96872/#post-2139649 Non-adjustable forks, plus steel swingarm.
The steel swingarms were on the cheaper bikes generally, the front forks were also lower spec. Such as fitted to the "Dark" models. The alloy swingarm was fitted to a variety of models, I had the "Senna" model, with an Ohlins rear and alloy swingsrm as standard. This is the very desirable swingarm which sells for a premium on its own, as its stronger than the originals fitted to the carby 900, which people like to swap out. For the ultimate in clingy swingarms, its worth getting a Metmachhex though if you are looking to upgrade. The steel swingarm is very strong, but heavy. Which is one reason why folk like changing them. I'm not sure if there was a difference in naming, but maybe the lower spec bikes were only a Sport not a Supersport. I'm gonna Google it
