1200 DVT Leaking Rad

  1. I’ve a Multistrada 1200 dvt and my rad is dripping. I’m currently in Luxembourg on the way to Munich on a 9 day tour from the UK. Any suggestions on a quick fix

  2. I used Radweld on a trip once when I was caught out, worked fine and got me home. I flushed the system when I got back and fitted a replacement radiator. I always carry a bottle of the stuff on trips now.

  3. If you can find the leak, I had great results a few years back after my rad was holed on a German autobahn. I used quick set epoxy putty. Preparation is key, the brand I used set in one hour. The repair got me back to the uk. Fortunately for me I could see where the stone had gone into the radiator coolant tube. Try this if you can and leave the radweld for back up. Hope this helps you.

  4. Under some circumstances/engines you can leave the rad cap off or just tighten to the first click. This will stop pressure build up. Caution. Only try this if you are familiar with engine cooling systems, and can check frequently.

  5. So, I ended up filling the expansion tank up so I could get to a garage. I put in some rad seal and it worked.
on inspection, the rad cover has a couple of snapped clips and the cover damaged the whole near side.
I then rode to another dealer garage who fitted the new one so I can carry on with the tour
