Riding country road 40mph (ish). Bang, tpms goes loopy and from 42 to 11psi in 100m. REALLY struggled to pull this out and hole left was quite big. Got out my repair kit and glue tube had gone solid. Aghhhhhh. Hadn’t used my repair kit for years; just sat in top box unloved. Lesson learned.
Yikes, never seen anything that big go into a tyre so cleanly before. I'd have expected that to just roll away and do no harm especially as it's not even pointed. Last puncture I had looked like a small electrical connector/pin/terminal, worst thing about it was that is was hollow so, despite being only a couple of mm thick the tyre went down really quickly, luckily easily repairable, not sure about yours as it may have damaged too many cords?
Might be, but mostly rear tyres bear the brunt as that is where a lot the weight is sat, not saying biots fat but looking at his avatar he a/ needs to lose a little around the middle possibly. b/puts at least put underwear on.
I would check the inside of the wheel when you change the tyre as that coach bolt may have contacted the wheel in the time it took for you to stop.
I had an engineering bolt 25mm in diameter in the rear of my Speed Triple many years ago. Astonishingly and with the help of a friendly driver who followed me the 10 miles home with his tyre pump, I made it back home.
I bet I couldn’t hammer that Franken-bolt in my tire with a 5lb lump hammer. My weight 94kg in my riding kit. Only had top box on which had a few bits of clothing in for an overnight. Was on way home from Dunstable. Extra question peeps: bought new tire puncture kit from my local Sportsbikeshop. Lots of ‘strings’ in pack but only one tiny tube of glue. Are these available separately. All kits I’ve viewed on ‘tinternet just show one tube!!
The glue is just the same as what you get in a bicycle puncture repair kit, well it is in the repair kit I’ve got anyway.
Have ordered more tubes of glue and more plugs/strings off bay of fleas! I’ll be able to fix everyone’s punctures from here to the Alps
My rear tyre went flat at Stepney Green. The intruding object was a vape. There are loads of them lying everywhere. The hole was too big for any kind of roadside repair. I had to recover the bike by trailer and get a new tyre.
Dayuum! As you well know suffered the same fate as you recently, albeit on a 600 mile old tyre and was only a small pin tack, but did enough damage to the cords to warrant a new tyre.
Was it by chance raining or wet even? Rubber cuts, puntures much more easily when wet. If I need to cut/trim a rubber hose I wet it and the blade and then it's much ......................... much easier. Plezier
Dry country road doing 40mph with only top box on with a few clothes in it. Front tyre missed it and just a loud bang as it shot in to rear tyre.
