Before and after a Scotchbrite treatment , go for a ride tomorrow and they'll turn bronze in no-time. BTW I need to remove the rear wheel 996.. can someone confirm I need a socket 44 before I order the wrong one? Thanks!
Universal, single point fixing, Bark Busters fitted to the Scrambler. Definitely not pretty but after getting caught in the downpour on Tuesday, they should keep some of the rain off my gloves that are still drying out. And, for a similar reason, my ancient Rukka trousers have finally given up the ghost so a pair of Rukka Kingsleys ordered whilst they are discounted at Infinity. Andy
Managed to work out why the Evotech rear spindle bobbin kept spinning. It needs a rubber insert to hold it in place and torque it up. Would be handy if the useless pricks at Evotech included one, or told me that was what’s needed.
Managed another 100 miles on the Scrambler. Absolutely loving the hooligan manners, absolutely not loving the Pirelli MT60RS, they have got to go. Andy
Sold the trials bikes on eBay, hopefully the buyers turn up and pay over the weekend. Dragged my Sons back up 50 from the back of the garage and listed it on eBay, his flat track Honda 125 will be next.
Yes, definitely a challenge with the limited choice in the 110/80 18 with a sport/touring bias. My girlfriend has ridden with the Metzeler Roadtec Z8 and the Angel GT on her 2016 Icon over time and she chucks the bike around on tarmac like a hooligan . Not totally sure she pushes the front as much as I do but then she’s a good 6 stone + lighter than me. The only other tyre I’ve considered is the Dunlop Roadsmart 4 although I read a random comment that the Dunlop has a firmer construction than the Metzeler which I’m more used to with the M7RRs on the Pikes Peak. Any of the three are going to be better than MT60RS and my initial punt might be more influenced by availability and cost. Andy
Mate had a MOT on his 959 this morning so joined him for a short ride and a bacon butty out. Nice gas gas in there. Didn't want to upset him but my bike sounded better than his and got more comments
Slapped a couple of hundred miles on the RS, messing about in Wiltshire & Dorset Played petrol roulette…
Yep, the desmodue is the best sounding duc of all time, no doubts about that. Close second is the desmoquattro, just gone downhill since then!
The Dunlops do have a stiffer carcass but you just run them at lower pressure. If… you can get Dunlop Roadsmart TT’s they’re well worth a go. No idea about the mileage but I put them on my Monster and they roll side to side beautifully through the twisties. I found the front end on M7RR’s and M9RR’s were going pointy and giving me steering head waggle. The TT’s have a more rounded front tyre profile. Just ordered a new rear because although there’s still plenty of life in it I can see it won’t last my upcoming trip to the Pyrenees. I’ll be sure to make a note of the mileage this time
Thanks Sam. Unfortunately not many touring/sports tyres in a 110/80 18” but given your confidence in the Dunlop, I’ll keep the Roadsmart IV in the pot. Andy
Gave my right wrist a test ride out over by Allenheads on the DesertX after getting told I have De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis in the base of my thumb Friday by a NHS physio. It seems ok for light throttle use & moderate gripping on the DesertX, but gripes like a bugger picking up large coffee mugs or at certain hand /forearm angles etc. I was told it may take a long time to improve, or need further interventions so considering doing a temp Streetfighter conversion on my 916 (reversible with no original parts harmed) as I can’t get my wrist angle any where near the RH clip-on currently with out it telling me to eff off . Also means no gnarly Mtb stuff until it stops giving grief . I’ve taped it up using Kinesio as per YouTubes for the condition to see if that helps , other option is to wear a splint when not active or all the time (I can’t see the latter being achieved ).
As a hoarder, you never know what you are going to come across when you rummage through your boxes. One as new Spider keyless fuel cap that happens to fit the Scrambler. Well pleased Andy
