Newbie Maybe Maybe Not

  1. Hi all, I'm being a bit naughty. Looking to add a748 to my stable. There seems to be Biposto out there that have had single seat conversion to look like an S or SPS and there was the 748E. Which I belief was the last two seater and came with five spoke wheels. If a model was on a 2021 Y reg but with three spoke wheels would this be an obvious earlier model and not a E. Been in touch with Ducati and absolute hopeless. I was hoping they could tell me how the vin number would designate year of manufacture and model. But they hide behind data legislation and company policy to only deal with the bikes owner.
Can anyone break down the vin number into what each means. Dont want to buy one thing and it turns out to be something else

  5. Welcome.
2001 bike (I presume you meant 2001 not 2021) with 3 spoke wheels will most likely be the 748E. Read the E as economy. Cheaper wheels, cheaper rear suspension, no adjustable steering head angle.

The 748S which came out in 2000 is the same as the preceding 748 BP and Mono but with 5 spoke marchesini wheels and different graphics.

I think it was round about 2000 Ducati switched to the industry standard 17 digit VIN number and the 10th digit denotes the year the bike was made.

  6. Welcome
