Check Your Penalties And Endorsements.

  1. I seem to be attracting the attention of the authorities a lot this year.
Firstly the fine for failing to SORN a “classic vehicle” because the insurance expired.
Recently an £80 fine administered by some lovely people called Advantis for not taxing a bike, but amazingly also having the DVLA "Confirmation of Vehicle Tax” email from the DVLA.

Finally the cnuts nicked my Africa Twin from Heathrow whilst I was at Portimao last month.
As part of the “claims validation” process they want a code to check I have no naughty step on my license.

Use this link with license number, NI number and post code for proof.

Important to get this right if you are answering the "any penalties or endorsements in the last five years" question and like me, you tend to erase those things from memory.

Can’t wait to see what my next indiscretion is

  2. I've been given preliminary H-license or tracked vehicle. So if I turn up to a meet in a tank, don't be shocked.

  7. Is it a bit like flying Ryanair….. the rules are complex and sometimes difficult to interpret …stick to the rules it’s fine, break the rules you are fined.
I agree that you misdemeanour with tax ins and licence shit will get followed up far more than your stolen bike!

  8. I was asked for this when I took out my van insurance a couple of years ago why I’m not required to by other insurance companies is a mystery.

A much better system than trying to remember my indiscretions.

Are they for the same vehicle?

If it is, contact them, tell them it was taxed, and send them a copy of the confirmation email

  10. Same bike.
Advantis do email. DVLA do letters. No “fine letter” from DVLA at all. Sent copy of Advantis letter to DVLA, awaiting a letter back. Told Advantis and they have given me a seven day stay of execution.

It’s such a battle to keep the right side of the law these days.

  11. I meant, send advantis a copy of the confirmation email from DVLA

  12. Yup, done that.
It’s a machine that has decided I am guilty.
