Throwaway No. 1

  1. Still smoking. I'll quit (again) one way or another, but not while working on a bike. Too fumble fingered (even with NRT - it's the quitting the automatic reaching for the fags, all the associations, that's hard. Quitting nicotine's a cinch).

Anyway the point is the current pack's got a warning about emphysema on it and a picture of, what I suppose is a clogged up lung. Only, from a couple of foot away, and at an angle, it looks like a drawing of Robert Plant.

  2. Tell me about it - giving up smoking that is & not visions of Robert Plant similar to those images of Jesus seen in marmite on toast or crisps or three cheese pizzas.

Gave up 5/6 years ago &, as you say, it's the habit pangs that are the worst. Although having said that I do still occasionally hanker after a cold beer with a deep lungful draw on a rollie.

  3. I shall look out for the tousle-haired god of rock next time I get that warning on my 30g of Drum Blue/horrid green.

  4. I gave up about 10 years ago and then started again recently because of stresses and strains I’ve already talked about on here. The way I look at it now is I’m going to do everything I enjoy, drink, smoke and eat what I like. I have no desire to live a long boring life especially with the way this country is now.

  6. I hate to be “that guy” but I used to smoke and one day I just decided to stop. So I did. No patches. No gum. No vapes. Just stopped. :noentry:

  7. Stopping smoking is the best thing you'll ever do for yourself, I stopped in 1991 when 20 Bensons were £1.60 a pack

  8. Generally I have no issue with people smoking, I did it for years myself. Their choice -no problem. But dating women who smoke? The taste is too bad and it ain't happening.

  9. I tried to give up smoking many times, until I decided I wanted a bike. It was easy after that, can’t believe the price on fags these days. :worried:

  10. I want more people to smoke. As many as possible, smoking as much as possible. Tobacco is the only f...king Tax I don't pay.

  11. People smoking doesn't really bother me (unless they throw fagash and nub ends out of their car) but I can't sit near and ashtray, they're disgusting

  12. I was on anticoagulant Rivaroxaban for several years. My nose and gums bled easily and I thought that was the price you paid being on anticoagulants.

A couple of years ago I wanted the option to fast, but you took the Rivaroxaban once a day, with food. I asked my friendly drug pusher if I could take it without food and she said there's another, similar one I could switch to. Apixaban you take twice a day and you don't have to take it with food. So I switched to that.

And found that I didn't get nose and gum bleeds on it!

Only now that I don't smoke anymore, my nose and gums bleed easily again.

And I'm still on nicotine lozenges. 2mg rather than 4mg and really only because I've been short-tempered. Anyway the point is it's presumably not nicotine that did whatever it is that stopped me bleeding on Apixaban.

Anyway, there's no craving, with or without the NRT. It's solely about the short temper. I do wonder if it's permanent: conditioned reflex I'm too old to unlearn.
