Hi all, I'm looking for some suggestions. I have a 2013 899 which has been fine until it came out of winter hybernation this year. The first run out I noticed it had a very jerky throttle. By that I mean it was so sensitive that it thrusted me forward when rolling off and nearly sent me off the back when twisted even gently. It's way worse in lower gears and lower speed and trying to maintain a steady 30 is nigh on impossible even when feathering the clutch. I tried completely changing the fuel for some decent E5 stuff but no change. It was due a service so I took it to my local dealer who have been great trying to diagnose the issue but even they, in conjunction with Ducati UK have, so far, been unable to get to the bottom of the issue. They thought it was a the quickshifter - engaging and disengaging the clutch but even disconnecting that and also replacing it didn't solve the issue. I know I can leave it with them to try and get to the root cause but any suggestions from anyone that may have experienced the same would be incredibly useful. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like your TPS sensor has gone funky. That would be my first port of call. If not there then check the integrity of the wiring from the throttle to the connector and also the thottle itself. RBW systems are not infallible.
how long was stored, was it started? cold damp garage? do you have spacers on the throttle? just a few thoughts
It was stored from December through to March but it's in a heated garage, even has carpet on the floor so probably cosier than other parts of my house :-D and yes it does have the throttle spacer kit. Does the latter make a difference or cause an issue? I fitted them about a year ago and it was fine up until the point I put it away for the winter.
Has it got fresh e5 fuel in? Mine didn’t like being sat with e10 in it. But also remember the throttles are electronically linked not physically so possible it could do with a throttle sync once you have ruled out dirty injectors and old fuel.
I’ve just had a thought, I had a throttle spacer break inside my throttle housing and that caused some problems although not the same as you are experiencing.
MAP sensors can give similar symptoms but they’re usually accompanied with the engine warning lamp and fault code(s)
i was gonna say similar, there a YT guy super bike surgery, and had something similar and it was MAP sensor or maybe another sensor, it was in the airbox, some jap bike, but took him ages, a shitty connection
