V4 Speciale Dds Map Key Help!!!

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Gordon Craig, Jun 5, 2025.

  1. dont worry i had the code read and it was just the missing exhaust valve motor signal..

  2. Trust me I don’t worry…. I was more raining an eye that your std fuelling will be weak for an open exhaust….

  3. Ask your dealer to contact the "Ducati U-Tech" department. They can check your VIN and see if the bike was ever registered/tied to an Akra system. On earlier Panigale V4 models, with Akrapovic full systems, it was a requirement to remove the EVAP canister and exhaust valve motor. The fitting kit included a number of blanking connector plugs (eliminators) to isolate these items from the CANBUS and therefore prevent any errors from being thrown up on the dash. The "map" for the Akra system, is stored within the dash (IIRC). All the "Key" does, is unlock and apply this map to your fuelling table along with a startup screen message. You can buy the isolating plugs, bungs and connectors directly from Ducati (ordinarily these would have come in the Akra kit for your year of bike). This might go some way to improving the rough running. If the original owner can produce a receipt (assuming he bought the exhaust from a dealer and it shows the serial number of the system), that should be all that you need to present to your own dealer, for the factory to assign it to your bike and UTech will then provide the dealer with the "key" to unlock the Akra map in your bike. Failing that you can either go to someone like Duessen Engines or buy a T800 UPMap and load the correct Akra map yourself. Either way you need to eliminate the servo motor and plug the connector, block off the purge line, remove the EVAP canister and plug the electrical connector as a starting point.

  5. Fair enough..
The bike is in the shop at the moment for some warranty work and service and I managed to purchase a map from the dealer direct as he used a development map from Duessen instead so it should all be good to go next week.

  7. Yeah Id manage that no bother. I don't really want the hassle of sending it back and getting my R1 back If can be avoided. Any suggestions of which company to get this hand held device and mapping from. I flashtuned my R1 myself so I'm sure I'll manage.

  8. This is what's confusing me as I ran it for 6 miles before it went in for fluids change and new battery. it was a little lumpy low down but it has sat for 6 years. They changed the fuel and added an additive and said it was running much better. Wasn't until they changed the battery they said it was struggling to start and very lumpy. something definitely seems off. Unfortunately I'm trying to get to the bottom of this sitting on a boat off the west coast of Africa while my bike is in Dundee. If you can save the day with that map I'll be your friend forever and ever

  9. Thank you for this. I'll have to wait until the bike comes back and im home from work to check all this.

  10. You have a number of choices but as AndyB alluded to, "Duessen Engines" would be my first choice. There are others on the market that offer similar packages such as Terminogni's 'UpMap', 'BrenTuning', 'Woolwich' and 'BHP UK', but Duessen know their stuff, and are way superior in terms of their breadth of knowledge, when it comes to fuelling. I would still try to resolve your situation through the dealer first however, as I explained earlier.

  11. Email him tell him what you have and what you want. He will send the device and everything required out to you with instructions. He will also be available end of the phone to help you through
You basically download your bike info into the gizmo load that to a app that’s provided sent to him he uploads the new info sends it back to you to add back into the gizmo you load it into your bike. A lot simpler that it sounds. His update will also clear the error codes and give you the ability to see what they are and clear them yourself

  12. That is fantastic news and information. At it stands now I have the receipts of all the work carried out including the full system fitted and which Ducati dealer. the guy who sold me the bike is waiting for them to get back to him (likely Monday) and see how this can be rectified. I'm hoping as it's a reputable Ducati dealer who fitted the system they fitted all plugs etc that came with the exhaust system. Good yo know that I can do what you have mentioned above worst case scenario. As I found out yesterday about the dash displaying Racing Evo on start up and mine doesn't seem to. The place its in should have known this. Hopefully on Monday there will be a plan. Much appreciated for that info though.

  13. I have already done this to a friend's Ducati with similar kit and I flashtuned my R1 so I am familiar. Sounds like a good plan thank you

  14. If you contact the dealer who fitted the system and they contact Ducatu U-Tech, between them you should get a "key" which they can pass on to your own dealer, who can then unlock the map stored in your bike. Odd that the previous owner did not request the map be installed by his dealer however, when he had the system fitted (assuming he purchased it from them)

  15. I’ve been doing a bit of digging and reading of my old training notes…….
    Here’s where I think you are…
The Speciale never had a “UPMAP key”. It falls into the vin registration process for software installation.
The bike was supplied with the exhaust kit as part of the package and the vin was pre registered. All that needed doing was to fit the exhaust, connect the bike up, enter the performance software section of the diagnostic program and hit a button.
If Dundee have tried this and it’s not worked, then the map has, at sometime, been installed and then uninstalled for what ever reason. This would however have allowed a voucher to be created to transfer the mapping to another bike.
Ask Dundee if they have tried this, or have they just asked for the upmap key without realising it’s not applicable to your bike?
You not having the racing indication on the dash is confirmation you are on stock mapping and why there is an exhaust valve error.
One last thing……… if the bike ran before the battery change, and not afterwards, IMO, it has nothing to do with the mapping. Changing the battery has no effect on mapping or software for that matter, unless the power is disconnected during the flashing process or in some keys the “power latch” post key off.

  16. Very interesting read. And yes I totally see your points. Yes Dundee just asked me for the key after saying their machine showed it was standard map. They didn’t know about the dash thing and why didn’t they know it doesn’t need the key? Since they told me it didn’t start with a new battery they then via mail said it started but not great starting or running. Something to me seems a miss and like you mentioned maybe the map was there and now it’s not some sort of failure. I’m also annoyed that they either don't know what you’ve just mentioned or something fishy us happening and they’re not admitting it. This all makes perfect sense. Hopefully Monday I’ll get confirmation from the dealer the bike came from if the map was installed when the exhaust was fitted. And if so then I’ll have an idea who’s to blame. The other confusing thing is my mate has exactly the same model and year and he has a DDS map key?

  17. Sorry forgot to mention that totally agree as far as battery causing these issues. Doesn’t make sense to me. I have read that lithium batteries can cause issues if not fully charged. Is there a chance problems can occur that the new battery wasn’t fully top up charged before fitting? It was thrown in last minute before collection was arranged.

  18. Hopefully it’ll get resolved next week for you, or at least a route to the solution found.
Just to clear up on the acronyms that Ducati use…… may save some confusion.
    DDS Ducati Diagnostics System
The Speciale did come with a “key” of sorts that was the DDA, Ducati Data Analyser. It connects to the diagnostics socket, but is not the upmap key. It may be that key that your mate has???

  19. Any battery, if not fully charged will cause problems with starting, that’s a given.
A battery in poor health, can cause issue with running by sapping energy or affecting the running voltages around the various systems of the bike. Ignition or fuel injector duration for example.
If a new battery is in place and the bike is running, there’s an excess of power coming from the generator to run the bike and to charge the battery.

  20. Yeah I thought this would be the case and seems very likely that throwing one in last minute didn't get a full charge and would certainly match up with the issues they're saying they're having now. But they're not going to admit this even if it is that. Am I correct in thinking the the bike should still run reasonable ok and start ok even if it has the standard map? I realise it's not ideal but it ran pretty ok the 6 miles I tried it before it went into them.
