I've always been a huge 2V superbike fan and this idea of building one has been itching in my brain for a long time. I've hade many supersports so it was kind of natural to eventually make one which factory never did. About a year ago i bought this cheap and neglegted 749 which i butchered as soon as i got it home. Immediately after that i started searching for a 1000 or 1100 DS engine. It didn't take long and soon there was a packet coming from Germany to Finland. It was a 1100S Monster engine.

As many of you know it does't fit straight in so i had to make a tool to mill the engine cases.

No time to negotiate with machinery shops so i made a tool for the job. It's a generic 10mm axle mated to a drill. Swing bolt needle bearings did the guiding and it worked out pretty well.

Engine wen't in and then i decided that for the first summer i'll just patch it up and gather some miles. Exhaust was far from optimal but i knew how horrible job it is to make one with 749 swingarm so i saved it for later.

I tried to pack everything under the tank but it became evident that they won't fit in there. I also tried to use 749 loom but ended up to swapping it to a multistrada one which i modified a bit. Gen 1 multistrada shares the same dash connector with 749 but all the wires are in different locations in the connector.

Eventually i got it in rideable condition and after first ride i knew i've succeeded building a ultimate supersport. With half tank of gas and oil in the engine the weight was 176kg with almost 50/50 ratio. It really felt light and easy to ride. Participated in one trackday with it and liked it a lot. Suspension seems to work really nicely with reduced weight.

In the end of the last season it looked like this.

I tried to sell it but apparently i had created something that only i can value :D This week i had holiday but my missus was working so i thought that now i have time to make the exhaust. Bought a pile of piecuts and started fiddling and welding.

After four days of wrestling i had these parts.
Horrible amound of welding had to be done but i'm happy with the end result.

Now it fits like it shoud.

Next thing to do could be making a custom seat. I have to ge a panigale seat and look if i could make it fit or mate 749 and panigale seat somehow together... I would like to get forged wheels and maybe S-model forks. A while ago i planned swapping 848 front in to it but after a while i've started to like that 749 face. At least you won't mix it with japanese bikes becaus there isn't many bikes which look like that. More pictures for the interested:

  2. That looks great! Really like what you have done there and love the innovation especially use of a drill and bar to mill the engine cases!

Installed MotoGP finfger guards and then modified mirrors to fit. Now i can easily remove mirros in trackdays. It wasn't easy to find parts whih aren't made in china because i don't want to swap italian parts to chinese ones. These Titax guards are made in Czech so they'll do :D

  6. Hi! Love your build! I'm trying to fit the same oil cooler to my 1100. Would you be willing to share how your bracket setup? Seen a few glimpses of it on your Flickr page.

Here you go. Made that bracket from stainles steel. In the other end there is the original bolt + nut which keeps it locked sideways and in the other end there's just a rod which goes through the rubber bushing. Forgot to shorten that rod :D

  8. Two trackdays behind and now it starts to feel right. I still need pair of grippy footpegs but other than that, it feels great. So easy to ride. I have a set of Continental Race Attack street tires and i really love those tires. Awesome grip and they reach operating temperature easily before first lap ends. From the first curve you can start adding more throttle and lean more and more. When the second lap starts you don't have to think about tires at all. They grip way more than my head allows me to push and with modest power reserves they seem to last well. i also installed a new Showa rear shock and with serviced forks the suspension feels now really good. No need to do anything to it. I believe i managed to build a perfect trackday bike for unc like me :D
