Hi everyone, I live in West Sussex and am looking for a recommended Ducati servicing outlet for a Desmo Service. The best quote I have had is around £1,300 which seems steep and my machine had the Cam Belts changed early, so they won’t need changing as part of this service. Can anyone help please. I’m happy to go anywhere for a trusted engineer.
Firstly welcome to the forum. Some distance from you but I use Motovation in my home town of Cheltenham. Had the Desmo check done on my 1260 Multi along with belts, all fluids (oil, brake, clutch), oil and air filters, full checkover etc. This was a couple of years ago but was £860. Clearances were in spec and didn't need adjusting, that would have added to the cost. My best mate, who's a bit more budget orientated delivers his 996 to Tim on a trailer with all the bodywork stripped off when he has his done (just the Desmo check) and pays a lot less. Maybe too far and I'm sure other members will be suggesting indi Ducati mechanics closer to you, gives an idea of cost though. Need to book my recently acquired 1260 Pikes Peak in with him as that will be due a Desmo service later in the summer after a European trip. Tim's always busy, there's usually quite a wait to fit work in. Best to ring him rather than email.
And that is a very useful point made by @Bumpkin, your servicing costs can be reduced by doing some of the donkey work first, if you are handy with a spanner. I would however add a word of caution, do check with your preferred service agent first that they will discount the bill Andy
I live in Petworth, West Sussex. I use Paul Goodall (ex-Snells, Alton) for race prep, rebuilds and servicing. 07733 174990 12 West Drive Eastleigh Hampshire SO50 6FL
Really appreciate the response. At that price it would be a lovely ride out, a day or two in a premier inn or campsite and still save me money!
I rang around a few suggestions, one of which was Paul Goodhall, and ended up taking my bike to him, so thank you very much Paul55 for the recommendation. Paul Goodhall was extremely professional on each phone call I had with him before agreeing to use him. He answered the phone quickly, every time, gave clear information on everything he would do, advised how he would charge me and his hourly rate, substantially less than the Ducati Dealer Network, and any possible extras that might occur. We agreed upon a date and the bike was ridden over to him in Eastleigh. His home garage is his workshop, was a decent size for more than one machine and was extremely clean and well organised. Another positive feeling. Paul worked on my bike and rang me later that day to say the bike would be ready the following day as, whilst the service was progressing well, I needed a new sprocket and chain which he could not get until the next day, if I wanted him to proceed with that as well. I agreed the extra work and when I collected the machine I was shown my Air Filter, Spark Plugs, chain and sprocket which he had kept to show what a poor state they were in and why they needed changing. The ride home was a delight and felt very different, in a positive way, to the previous months outings on the machine. I would therefore highly recommend Paul Goodhall and will contact him when I need work in the future. A thoroughly nice man, very efficient and effective.
