Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice. I have a 2016 Ducati 959 Panigale with 4,700 miles on the clock and a full service history. The bike has only done about 50 miles since its last service in September 2024. This morning, after being parked in my garage for five weeks (with a full tank of fresh fuel), I started it up and let it warm as usual—no issues initially. However, on the ride to work, I noticed it would speed up and slow down without any input from the throttle. Shortly after, it began struggling for power, sounded louder than usual, and would occasionally pop on throttle roll-off. I turned around and headed home. As I pulled into the driveway, I noticed a burning smell. After shutting it down, I tried to restart it, but it wouldn’t fire up without opening the throttle, and it was running very rough at idle. A quick visual check showed what looked like a bit of black, greasy oil on the exhaust (below the chain), but nothing leaking onto the floor. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Also, if anyone knows of a good mobile mechanic or Ducati specialist in the Aberdeenshire area, I’d really appreciate a recommendation. Thanks in advance!
Have you checked exhaust servo isnt sticking? Sounds different to symptoms I had when that happened, mine was jammed shut so bogged down if higher than 4-5k revs but worth a check (Though wouldnt think that would affect the starting so I may be off the mark)
Popping on the roll off doesn’t sound unusual if you have aftermarket pipes, the bogging definitely worth investigating asap before you’re left stranded somewhere.
Could be a MAP sensor fault, had similar symptoms on my MS when one went, it was lumpy and backfired on idle and also smelt of petrol, but I think it should throw up and engine management fault on the dash? Any fault lights coming up?
