Diavel 1260 - Ignition After Rain

  1. Hello fellow riders,

I’ve got a bit of an issue with my 1260.

Went out for a ride last weekend and got caught in the rain.Everything was fine until I got home and stopped the bike. The ignition started to go on and off randomly. Started the bike, left it idle for about 30sec and the power completely cut off - it did that a few times and then it started running as it should.
Today when I’ve pressed the ignition button to start the bike, nothing happens - dashboard is not coming on and the handlebars are locked.
Has this happened to anyone before? Any advice on what should I check?

    TIA

  2. Whilst this might not be the case make sure the fob battery is good. Symptoms now seem to reflect that. If it got wet on your ride it could be effected.

There will be an antenna for the keyless ignition somewhere. If you hold the fob to that and press the button it'll work without battery power in the fob. That would confirm a dead fob battery.

  3. I have replaced the battery key fob and that doesn't seem to resolved the issue. What I have noticed now is that if I leave it off for about 5-10min, when I press the ignition nothing works. So I have tried to take the battery out, the negative wire had a short and the dashboard lit up. Every time I move the negative on the battery and has a short, everything runs ok. If I tighted the screw on the negative, It starts once - runs ok - I switched it off and after it doesn't start anymore.
I have also replaced the fuse on the keyless antena and that doesn't seem to solve the issue.
Also sometimes when I manage to put the ignition on, it says it does not detect the key and I need to put in the pin code. Take the negative off the battery, put short it ... it detects the key.

Never seen anything like it :triumph::triumph::triumph:

  4. A quick plug into a diagnostic computer will tell you exactly where the issue lies. Fortunately all issues are recorded for reference. Unfortunately that entails a trip to a dealer, an Independent with Texa or a friend with OBDStar iScan for Ducati. Until then you’re whistling in the dark.
