These guys don't guarantee to take you & vehicle home though "National Recovery An extension upon our Local Recovery. If a recovery operator is unable to mobilise your vehicle at the roadside or home address, we shall decide and recover the vehicle to either a suitable garage, your home address or your destination. One of the above options will be arranged by our experienced team with all factors taken into consideration, such as, but not exhaustive to; the time of day, type of repair required, number of passengers, your location."
It comes down to driver hours usually, hence the ‘relay’ bit of AA. RAC have never done that to me and always had a single recovery all the way back.
RAC screwed me over when I broke down at 10:30pm on the way to a track day. They left me until 8am in the morning and used autodial every 30 mins to play a recorded message to tell me something like their thoughts and prayers are with my family… so I couldn’t even sleep. When the contractor turned up they told me they’ve been sitting around on call all night and the rac didn’t call them out, cos they’d have had to pay night rate I decided I would never bother with them again, if/when I break down again, I’m just going to google a local recovery service. It might cost about a years RAC premium to get me home so the maths works out.
I sacked my registration after I was told to email my request for recovery. The automated voice was very apologetic in explaining they were very busy and that they were having a bad day! 16 years a member. Must check to see if they have part refunded my last payment
I have my car insurance through the RAC and therefore have recovery etc covered. The bike is only 9 months old so still has Ducati cover.
I recommend GEM breakdown cover. Covers you in any vehicle even if you are a passenger. Costs far less than RAC/AA and uses local recovery agents so you don't have to wait hours to get picked up.
Thanks for that. They look good and the prices are keen. My issue is that they don't provide the Euro part. They do have an insurance policy that they sell as an ad on admittedly, but you can't get the details until you have signed up as a member -unless i read that wrong? With the UK and Euro add on, the price is not far off the AA for "similar" coverage and I'd be dealing with two different companies.
Screwed my partner over by not checking the car once her car’s OBD plug malfunctioned. Wouldn’t check anything refused to work on it, RAC wouldn’t send out a flat bed to recover car and transport vehicle and passengers. 6 hours later they got home on a 1 1/2 journey. Not impressed with their ‘service’ of late. Last time they had me stranded in Mid Wales unable to give me an ETA whilst riding my KTM I rode home anyway with the bike using just 3rd gear but at least I got home. It appears that things aren’t what they used to be.
