For those in the know I have a few questions re mileage count on an 1199. I believe the mileage is stored in the dash - is that correct? If a dash unit is changed the new mileage will be zero if it’s a genuine OEM new dash from Ducati - is that correct? However, the dash has the bike’s VIN associated with it, so presumably for a new dash to be fitted and for the VIN to be applied to the dash it can only be done by an official dealer ? Im just trying to get to the bottom of why a 2014 bike displays 2700km on the dash yet the last service stamp in the book shows 11,000 miles back in 2022 and that oil service wasn’t done by an official dealer but by a non Ducati specific, generalist, independent. FYI, all the VINs in the bike’s various computers match the frame VIN, and the main ECU tells me the bike’s only done 2700km - but then that could be getting its info solely from the dash.
As far as I know you are correct, the mileage is held in the speedo instrument and can't be changed on an 1199 (899/959 & possibly 1299 can all be mileage corrected to the higher available mileage). Don't ask me why but only the 1199 is the odd one out. I have the same problem with my own 1199, I fitted a brand new 0 mile instrument panel and kept records and pictures of the old miles, not ideal but it's what it is.
Pretty sure mileage is in the bbs, I recall my old trioptions 899 had to have a new dash because of crash damage and the Ducati tech corrected the mileage via bbs
Have a look at the Digital Kaos forum. The mileage is stored in both the dash and the BBS. From the posts on there people are accessing the BBS to dump the data but I do not know how they are doing it. It possibly involves surgery on the BBS to access the chip.
Mileage on the 899/1199 is stored in the dash and BBS. If the dash is changed for a new virgin dash, then the vin can be written over but not the mileage with the DDS.
Mileage is stored in the dash and bbs. You can sync the mileage using a Texa or similar but only to the higher of the two values.
All very interesting and thank you everyone. The displayed mileage is 2700km and that’s what appears in the BBS and ECU logs in Texa, plus, as mentioned, all the VINs match for all CUs on the bike.
