This year a promise to myself fulfilled and a delayed trip from 2020 (Covid) Fly into Madrid and collect the bike and find the Source of the Duero / Douro and follow it to the sea at Porto One thing for sure its going to be hot
Salamanca is such a beautiful old walled city it’s well worth a visit. Unfortunately the roads leading to and from look horribly straight though. Are you planning or have you just started your tour?
Maybe following the river will provide some interesting roads but generally anything anywhere near Valladolid is boring riding, big flat plain.
Suggest looking at a Michelin map of the area and plotting your route along green edged roads. These are designated scenic routes and almost always make for good biking roads. I note that A4 to the north of the Duro has this, I'd maybe avoid that. Simon Weir's book has a route in the region that could be used as a basis for part of your trip.
Cheers everyone, For a shortish stay I saw renting was cheaper than the ferry. I did notice the central plane loos boring, but the Duro valley in Portugal looks great
Only two issues today. my lightweight shirts disappeared and godawful Madrid Airport. Broken shy bridge and 40 egates all nor working
Some great roads and fantastic weather. Maybe boring tomorrow as I cross the Central Plain but a shitty day on a bike is better than a good one at work
From central Spain just as the river starts to broaden to Eastern Portugal today. I added some extras and took in a good mountain pass. Lot of wildlife spotted. From possible Eagle to a snake at 1 Metre length
