V4 Legs Getting Too Hot

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Stavrich, Jul 14, 2025.

  1. No problem. I'm out at the moment but will send details later today.

  2. Out on a ride yesterday, hot day around 29C.
Legs, especially the thighs, getting very hot but this time I found the area that was getting too hot.

The side panel shown in the photo is getting too hot and as I tend to ride with my legs touching the side of the bike they get too hot.

I had to move my legs away in order to keep them a bit cooler but that feels a bit odd to me.

I noticed in the spare parts catalogue for the 2023 there is a new part number - from 48216851B change to 48216852B (same now as the 2024 -> ). Wondering why? Have they added any heat shield on the panel?

    Questions -
Do your panels get hot as well?
Do your panels have any heat shield?

    Comments please

  3. You could try wearing one of these t.shirts?

  4. I have a 24 GT model and I can't recall a heat shield, last time I had them off.

  5. I ride with my legs on the handlebars, never had an issue with heat.

  6. You are heartless! :sob:

  7. I thought the flaps work the other way, you have them closed to stop the hot air blowing onto your legs then open them in winter so you get the warm air.
So I have mine closed and don’t get hot legs ?

  8. What’s all this talk about flaps and hot air? This isn’t mumsnet.

  9. The flaps, if fitted, are, when closed, to minimise rain/cold air being directed onto your lower legs. When open they let cooler air flow up and around the riders legs.

@Stavrich the hot air exiting the radiator comes out via the ‘sharks gill’ type vents above the lower winglets. The direction of the vent should be moving the hot air out and away at about 45 degree angle from the bike.

I suspect the heat you are experiencing is solely from the rear cylinders and their exhaust manifolds, which will be exacerbated and more noticeable if the ambient temp is as high as yours and if your wearing single layer jeans or airtex type textile trousers, worse if you ride in shorts.

Im not sure there’s anything can be done about it other than move your legs away periodically or even stand up on the pegs no and again to allow cooler air to get in there to cool your inner thighs.

  10. @West Cork Paul - Had a good look at the bike and you are absolutely right.

In addition to fitting the flaps I will cover the inside of one side panel, probably the right one, with a heat shield and see if it makes any difference.

I will let you know of the outcome.

P.s. my next thread is front brakes. TBF.

  11. im surprised clothing manufacturers haven't come up with a ventilated trouser, although not a fix, would be pleasant to open your legs and get a cool draft down the inside of the thighs to the man bits

i thought about getting some old biking trousers, cutting some slits inside leg above the knee and then maybe sticking half a small plastic vodka bottle though each slit, the idea making a scoop to blow air in when you opened your legs

  15. All a lot of ideas...keep them coming.
Thought of the cool cover to keep other items cool but I worry that my feet will never touch the ground - another thing to worry about

    But, a serious question.

Am I right to assume that some of you do not have my issue.
    Or
You have the same issue but it does not bother you.

  16. Same issue BUT only in traffic or at a standstill in 25C+ weather rest of the time not an issue (flaps open) :).
I do have a cool cover fitted and single layer jeans (Halvarssons Rogen) or the Rukka AFT Pants.

  17. This is quite an expensive solution.
Buy a 1299, S if you wish but, the results will be the same. Once bought, ride it in heavy traffic, winter or summer it makes no difference, that is what hot legs and bits feel like. Then get back on your Multi, it will seem much cooler and pleasant, problem solved.
    Sell 1299.

  18. I have a 2023 Rally, it looks to have flaps, how are they deployed?

  19. I can’t say it’s ever been a noticeable issue for me - ‘21 V4S

There’s a small tab on them, push against the spring to release the catch and open or close them accordingly. All quite intuitive really.

  20. Just got back from France with my V4S GT and we've been riding in 30 degrees plus for the week. Flaps are open. Bike runs at 87/88 degrees up to 103/104 at slow speeds or idle. The heat was not excessive on my legs at any time but you know it's there, and I'm wearing single layer jeans and short boots. It's not as bad as my 1299 though.
