Never seen a full fairing on an SSD like that before with what must be a two into one on the lhs. I'm also noticing the rather natty fully enclosed chain guard.
The fairing is a twin headlamp Crossbow Equipe. It was £187.70p from Three Cross motorcycles. Looked good, provided better light and improved weather protection. The exhaust was a two into one from Pietro Dimarino when he was based at Caterham. Both were fitted after a slight off a 80mph on the M25 (before it was a ring road) at Redhill. The exhaust was extremely loud above 3k rpm and at 120mph on the autobahn the heat from it burnt a hole in my plastic throw-over panniers sticking halve my nylon underwear to the inside of the pannier. The exhaust wasn't touching the pannier. Derek is right about the chain guard.
I just found this picture of my 900SS taken in Sweden in 1982. It didn't have the Furlong chain guard at that point. The The NCR style seat and alloy tank came from Newton Racing. The fairing was one of a small batch that were made for Jim Anderson who was racing a 900SS for Shirlaws of Aberdeen at the time.
There's a nice thread on another forum titled 'Sparrow-fart rides'. Always lovely light... Edit - it was the Triumph Rat forum: https://www.triumphrat.net/threads/...5&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-2004512285
There's many things to enjoy on early morning rides, the roads in addition to the light are clear plus the cold & sometimes damp air makes our older carb fed bikes run a little leaner & harder.
Although there can be a few more dozy birds & animals on the road - I recall many years ago killing a cat with a Guzzi V50 one early morning....
