Thanks @Spence, nasty one that! I knew the front mounting bolt had been upgraded a while ago, is there anyway of knowing if this has been done on my bike through Ducati or is it just safer to replace with a hi tensile bolt every now and then? Thanks
I'd be tempted to swap mine for Ti-Bolts also if they are better strength wise? @Spence sorry to hear about the hand, did you replace them with Titanium bolts or are you not allowed with Tri-Options rules?
I’d just change them so you are sure. Mine was front mount bolt that snapped. Most of us now use the spider mount and bolt.
Fitted a titanium through bolt with locknut and also thought it wise to add the Spider support as per @Spence’s recommendation. Job jobbed! If anyone runs into the same problem, Ben Sutterby at Codex motorsport supplied the Ti bolt and nut and has a few more in stock.
Old post but I've just snapped one of mine just the same as Bettes, only mine went while I was undoing it! Having been previously torqued and greased to 60nm as per the book (was looking to get at swinging arm bearings during 30k Desmo). Just ordered a pair of new ones from Ducati but I might just cancel it today and put the £50 into titanium instead. Weirdly the torx "arms" cast into the head don't go down and contact the body of the bolt, there's a kind of undercut gap which is going to greatly reduce the contact area and so strength between head and bolt, either it's a truly terrible design or they've actually designed it to shear at a certain torque, like a security bolt, can't think why though, very odd.
