749 Non Starting 749s

  1. So I purchased a unloved 749 that had been sat since 2006. Only has 2700 miles on the clock and just the 1 owner from new. It is in a sorry state gaving been left outside under a cover for years. Lots of paint flaking, petrol tank rotted and so on.
Previous owner had tried to jump-start it and crossed the terminals. Got it home changed oil that was not too bad to be fair. Bike came with a new tank and pump. Checked the belts and they looked in fairly good condition. I Put a new battery on but would not even turn over. Shorted the starter solenoid and she fired up second go. Looked at error codes and was showing 19.2. Knackered ECU just to trying to jump-start and crossing the terminals. Managed to get a used DP performance ECU from Ebay. Got delivered fitted it but no go still. Was showing error code 37.3 immobiliser issue. Chris W came to the rescue. Sent ECU to him on Thursday and he performed his magic. ECU arrived back Tuesday. Fitted but no start. Schoolboy error on my part. Forgot the earth on the ECU. Connected it and bike fired up 1st time. Chrisw is definitely on my Christmas card list

  4. Interesting (I've just restored my '04 749)... and well done on getting the bike running :upyeah: I would change those belts, they're every 2 years or 12k, and do a full service if it's been sat for a long time. Flaking paint is standard btw.

  5. Already done. I own 2 x 749 and 2 other 916 era Ducs. Do the belts as normal. Just need to drop the engine to repaint it then it's off for an MOT
