Hi just wondering if anyone has tried the cheap Chinese steering dampers for the Monster 1200. Mine is a 2020 and can be a little wayward (had the suspension dialled in). I just don’t want to pay £700 for an ohlins on a relatively cheap bike. The cheapo ones are about £300. obviously if anyone has managed to fit one from a different bike or has a second hand one from an R I would be very interested.
Not £700 here and tbh once you watch your bike bouncing down the road you may wish you'd spent a couple of hundred more https://conquestracingltd.com/product/ducabike-ducati-monster-821-1200-ohlins-steering-damper-kit/
This is true they are very much worth having if you want to get a wriggle on. thanks for sending on that does look a bit cheaper. Just checking there isnt import tax on top of the VAT.
Any mates who are handy in the garage? Some steel stock and a couple of hours would see it done. Less if you can find good diagrams with dimensions……..
Not really tried it yet so will report back once I have. Will probably take it to a track day in August to give it a proper go. I had the suspension setup which improved things a lot. I think they have a small rear spring and a very firm front end. Result was to max out the rear spring on pre load and back off the comp and rebound on the front. That really helped but it would still shake its head on rough roads.
I have the R which of course comes with the steering damper fitted as standard , but regardless of bends ,speed ,wheelies etc ,i have not had even a tremor let alone a shake from the front end ,only when cornering at 130 plus do i get any movement ,and even then i only have the damper set in a fairly soft position .
Try Dunlop Roadsmart 4’s. I’ve just tried Dunlop Sportsmart TT’s which are absolutely great but the rear wears out too quick. 2500 miles. Front lasts longer, maybe = 2 rears but the Roadsmart should give you decent mileage.
