OK, so I went for a spin this afternoon, been a few months since I last rode it. It was a bit lumpy when I set off, ran on one for a bit (not for long) but then it seemed to clear up. Happily pulled through the rev range for an hour or so then when I pulled in for a quick break, clutch in and it died, no tick over. Then it didn't start. It turned over with the odd huge backfire through the exhaust. AA turned up, nice fat spark but plugs appeared to be dry. A squirt of easy start resulted in another huge backfire and a call to get it recovered. It has fuel, I can hear the fuel pump running so where do I start looking???
Ok, time to update this one now that I have cleaned the brakes... Fuel filter replaced, injectors cleaned and both working well (one was replaced), fuel pump can be heard priming. All put back together, turns over and it still won't start. It has a big spark but the plugs are dry. The tank is half full of fresh fuel. So, I don't know what to look at next. It's got to the point where I am doubting myself and that I have done something stupid like putting the hoses on backwards or forgotten to connect the injectors so I am going to drop the tank off and and check it again.
There have been many posts of this nature over the years. Possibilities being CPS Failure Fuel lines from tank to injectors degraded and collapsed inside aided by ethanol fuel O rings in the qr connector in the tank collapsing causing a blockage (if you decide to change these for metal ones don't buy cheap Chinese ones)
Ignition relay. Swap it for the one for the lights and try again. Should this work, the failed relay will still work the lights, but only on high beam (should it need to, for example, in roadside fix to get you home)
