my issue is that it’s not a £10k bike when recommissioned. Non ohlins 748r gen 1 is more like £8500 asking price and then expect to haggle. Having said that, £6k would be where I would be if I were in the market. Sorry.

I don’t think anyone’s saying that Steve, it’s just that it’s a tough market for a start and it seems you have 2 choices - 1) recommission yourself and sell at market price or 2) sell at a lower price to someone happy to either do (best bet) or pay someone to do a recommission. It comes down to where YOU see the most value yourself. Good luck either way.

I don't think any replies suggest it's a SOS ! but.......having owned 3 748's and 2 slab 748R's your early non Ohlins R is nowhere as desirable as later versions and with the changing demographic and hard times, if it hasn't sold in 2 years it's overpriced surely?
I know you are right about it being overpriced, it's just hard to accept. Had the bike for 10yrs and kind of assumed it was a good investment. Has not turned out that way!
I don't think many bikes ( or cars) will be good investments in the coming years. They are only going to be museum pieces in 20 years time.
Totally understand Steve; many of us become emotionally attached to bits of metal and plastic, but I've found over 25 years and as many Ducatis that IF you decide to sell then you have to accept what the market dictates and buying anything as a good investment is really a gamble over the term?
Because of the 916 supremacy (and price…), 748s never came to my mind as « investment » bikes… More like affordable « have fun/fall in love/ride the hell out of it » type of bike. « Affordable » being the key word here. This is what the 748 ever was about: budget. I personally don’t see bikes (or cars) as great investments, anyways. Best case scenario, the value increase will cover insurance, gas, and maintenance costs, and by the time I sell, I will have ridden/driven it for free all these years. And met interesting people. Which imho is one billion times better than money left unused on bank account.
Nah, no one is saying nor implying that at all. I'm sure its a beautiful bike -a picture would be nice?- its just the recommissioning and the shite market right now. The estimate of putting it on the road is the crucial thing to find out imo, so you can make a decision which will likely bring you the best return. Well that and letting us all know what kind of kebab is on offer post sex!
