Hi,all .Hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying the fine weather. I have been looking at the last edition 1299R and have seen two examples with less than a 500 miles on . I noticed that the suspension does not seem to have any electronic aids?. I think that the price seems a bit salty, but if I bought one of would not be an investment as I plan to use it. Any user's thoughts on the bike?. Cheers.
Some will tell you it’s not a proper ‘R’ because it’s not an homologation special and never raced but IMO, it is probably the finest evolution of the Ducati L twin engine. Yes, no electronic suspension and better for it. When it was launched you got the ‘Ducati marketing mining your pocket’ but time has shown it is a special bike. Andy
I can't answer that question for you, my sports bike riding days are long gone but for me, I’m inclined to say probably yes, maybe even better than my Panigale V4 Speciale Andy
The last L Twin of what is probably the best looking of the Panigale range to date in my view - would happily have that to admire but as you say for same money 2 1299 S's or a brand new V4S.
Do it. Best looking panigale ever made behind the 899 and worth every last penny (especially if you intend on riding it).
Agree mate. No way would I have a bike with aero on ,look a right Pillock at the local cafe. I would have an earlier v4s..
A beautiful FE recently went through the Collecting Cars auction. Can’t remember what it made but the gavel definitely came down. I was tempted to have a bid. I’d have been killed if another bike appeared in the garage. Pah…
If you already have 3+ bikes, the trick is to make sure any new additions are the SAME COLOUR as an existing bike that the other half already knows about. It will go un-noticed (until they look at the bank statement anyway).
They are an amazing bike if you want a truly visceral experience. Every time I ride mine it fills me with pleasure and fear in equal amounts. I had a brief ride on a 1299 and it’s very different. It took me a while to gel with mine. The standard exhaust holds the bike back in sound and response, I initially felt disappointed with mine. So if you get one, ensure it has the full race system (no titanium belly cans). Not many do as the price was over £5k on top of the bike. The difference is night and day, I’d say the bike with the standard Akra system is too constrained and might feel like an anti climax. Free it up with the race system and you’ll be amazed with how it pulls your arms off from very low revs with the performance to match the SL at half the price. The suspension needs work to suit your weight and preferences, out of the box it is rock solid and not enjoyable on the road. However, tweak the settings and it becomes an amazing beast. If you can find one with the full race system you won’t be disappointed. Every time you step of it you’ll be left with a huge smile on your face.
Ha ha. I did this with pushbikes! Got 5 into the stable all in white. Down to one now but all Mrs saw was a white bike being ridden. Tee hee.
Thank you for all the replies. Tbo I have had a good think about it and cannot justify the money. The wife said that I should get it if I really want one. However I have six bikes and have no intention on selling any of them ,so at the moment a 7 bike combo is out of the question. My total bike milage was less than 6k last year. But as they say ,better to regret something you have done over not done. Cheers
