748 Chinese Sidestands For 748/916 On Ebay

  1. Anyone with any experience of these? 748 sidestands have never been the best design, IME the stand bends, and the bracket bends too. And now, corrosion is eating away at the foot of the stand. Unclear how this happened, but the safety of the stand is coming into doubt. I haven't yet rung Ducati to see how much a new one costs, but the fact that people are asking 150 quid for second-hand ones on ebay (which might not be any good) tells me all I need to know! I was just chatting to a chap who said, you might be able to get one fabricated in steel, or an existing steel one modified. But now I see you can buy one for around 20 quid. There seems to be quite a few to choose from.

  3. I’ve just swapped my 998 sidestand (Big Leaner) for a 1098 one, if the original one might be of use?

  4. I 'think' the 998 stand is the same, but I'm not certain. Message me any details and what you'd want for it, thanks! :)

  5. I'll post a pic of the foot of my stand tomorrow. It's weird, it looks like it's been eaten away by a strong acid or something! :astonished:

  6. I’ll take a pic tomorrow and post it on here. Can’t imagine I’ll need it any more so FoC if it works for you.

  7. That is one ugly side stand. I wouldn't let such a beautiful bike be allowed anywhere need that thing

  8. I managed to get a 1098 stand off Ebay for around £50. It's a straight swap, including the bracket and is slightly longer than the original.

  9. This 100%. And never look back. 748/916/996/998 OEM stands were designed 1 inch too short. That was corrected with 1098/1198. It’s a plug and play mod.

  11. So does the 1098 stand work with the 748 bracket, or would I
Honestly, Martin, I'm way past the point of aesthetics! Realistically, this a very old and scruffy bike, with peeling paint and cracked fairings, and I will probably never do more on it than a couple of thousand miles at most at the fag-end of my biking career. I've done big miles on it in the past, but I think those days are gone. So I'm not inclined to throw money at it. For the sake of twenty quid, I might take a punt on one of the Chinese jobs, if only as a temporary safety measure, whilst I investigate 1098 stands etc.

  12. So does the 1098 stand work with the 748 bracket, Or do you need the 1098 bracket too?

  13. That was my first thought too!

  14. The 1098 bracket bolts on the same as your bracket.
