Do any of you have one? Is it likely to be effective on a bike parked up on a trip when it’s not used to tether it to a fixed object - is it big enough to go over the wheel and tyre and fork leg to stop the wheel turning and the wheel being removed? Fortunately I returned to my bike today as I had forgotten something in the pannier to find two gits interfering with my bike lucky for me they legged it when I challenged them with my mate as back up. I was lucky but it has got me thinking about security. Cheers
I have one bought for my Wild Atlantic Way trip as I was concerned it would be easily stolen and required a lock that has a very good reputation. GasGas 700 SM If your intent is to stop a casual attempt a DX1000 is the jobbie There are ways round a shackled front wheel which I won't reveal here, better to have both wheels immobile. IMO a DX100O for the rear wheel and a roadlok or another dx for the front too, probably cheaper than your excess too. MY Son used a D1000 which was released before the DX on his Supermoto 125, it wasn't stolen.
Thanks for your comments Yes it’s about deterring casual attempts like today - it happened in Horsham in broad daylight. Having looked at the blurb I did not get the impression the hiplok would fit over the front rim/tyre. I guess I could put it through the spokes on the rear. I was only going for a coffee but was too lazy to put on the disc lock so that is a lesson in itself. I have just purchased a Roadlok but not fitted it yet.
The Hiplok dx1000 fits over the front Rim/ Tyre on my 1200r. I will take a photo later and post it on here.
Quite a few of us on the forum use a Roadlok, https://roadlok.com/. The UK importer, @Billy Big Roy, is a forum member and offers a discount to subscribers. This, https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesoci...and-locks/roadlok-review-motorcycle-disc-lock, is a review. Andy
I have had a Roadlok fitted on last couple of bikes . Some lovely youves broke into the garage, my bike had moved a tiny bit which is when I reckon they saw the Roadlok . They stole the other bike(not mine) in this unit which only had steering lock and normal chain/padlock on which was dispensed with very quickly. Plus Roadlok is SO convenient too.
I have the new Hiplock and it fits round the front wheel (and tyre) on my 959 Panigale but not round the rear or forks. Good lock but weighty. If someone really wants to nick your bike they will, but for the usual grinder and wheel away theft it's going to be as good as it gets.
...PS it is also long enough (on my 959 anyway) to get round the front rim and then to a fixed object like a road staple or signpost (not a proper lampost of course) if you put front wheel right up against such furniture but its tight and requires precision parking.
Thanks for the comments - do you think it Would it fit around two front wheels - around one as you describe and through the spokes of another?
I use one in my garage - through front wheel - as photo above. Then a 22mm Noose Chain (Hiplok) and a ground anchor (Pragmasis) Thats a Multi V4. I do not think it would go around 2 wheels. When I am out - I use the Roadlok on Front and Smaller DX Hiplock through the spoke and disk on the rear. Not secured to anything - but stops wheel away and carried in a Kreiga Rally Pack mounted to the Rack holder at back on Multi.
I have purchased and actually got around to fitting the Roadlok today, nice bit of kit and easy to use. I bought it via the forum. It is very convenient and as it is so easy to use it will get used! I like the fact that the wheel cannot be moved unlike most disc locks so hopefully it will not damage things when you forget it’s fitted! Does anyone know of anyone making a holder for the metal pin unit? I was thinking of a hiplok as a second layer of security particularly while touring. Previously I have used a squire and almax chain, heavy but stored on the pillion seat in a kriega. Unfortunately that is too heavy/unwieldy for me these days. I was thinking two hiplok’s to attached two bikes together might be a lighter more convenient set up. I will go and have a butchers at one in a store during the week.
I still have an almax chain and Squire lock, but never use it - way to heavy to carry around. For road trips I use this the Litelok X1. It has been designed to withstand angle grinder attack. No that bad to carry around actually. No heavier or worse to carry than a standard D-Lock. Also add one of those reminder cables used for disk locks. Sorted.
I have a Roadlok fitted on the GS. Very convenient kit. Seriously thinking about a 2nd lock with an alarm for my trip in a few weeks. Not staying in Reims*! But about 1.5 hours away at a hotel with secure locking gates. But..there have been so many thefts reported I am thinking about doubling up security, with something noisy on the back wheel! *Read about gates being removed from hotel entrance and several bikes being lifted in one go!! I think the crazy prices of new and used bikes these days just makes them all a tasty target esp for the more pro scum with vans and possibly vehicles with lifts.
