Carfest

  1. Just seen a news article that explains why the British MotoGP at Silverstone isn't over the August Bank Holiday next year. CarFest has announced it's moving from Laverstoke Park Farm near Overton to Silverstone after the event this coming weekend. As a local, can't say I'm sorry to see the back of it, for something that is only over 2 days, it disrupts our lives for 6 weeks with restricted speed limits, having to sit and wait for grossly oversized vehicles to come from the A303 and causes significant damage to the infrastructure (only one country road in or out) that highways/council don't repair. 2. I’m not sure I understand @Android853sp it wasn’t over August bank holiday this year and it isn’t next year either?

If you just want to moan about a cager fest fill young boots though. We have one every first Sunday round here and there are an astonishing amount of utter helmets who attend it and scream past my house every four Sundays (that’s in 20 zone).

  3. For a number of years, the GB round was over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It became a tradition for us, no need to take Monday off as annual leave and it's Carole's birthday. Hated the change to May, not happy with the move to early August but hey, with any luck, 2026 will be the last year the GP is at Silverstone. As to the Ginger twat's CarFest, let's not go there. 4. It could be the last year at more than Silverstone if attendances are anything to go by but let’s not go there ahem.

Ours is run by a local coffee shop and although you want them to keep going and earn some £££ it’s getting rather obnoxious and boring now.

  5. We went to Carfest last year, and it was utter shite. I'm glad it's moving far away, as the disruption was a pain in the arse.

  6. Moving far away from you, right to me! We’re set up to handle it a bit better than most, though. Word here is that it’s going to combine with the Classic (now called the Festival) over the August bank holiday weekend, or even replace it and I’m sad about that.

We already have Japfest and Ford Fair here too and they’re well behaved.

  7. Silverstone have just released a statement that the Festival this weekend, will be the last in its current format. After your post, I thought about the current venue for Carfest, which occupies hundreds of acres and how much real estate Silverstone has lost to development. The space made available to accommodate the MotoGP this year was pathetically small and I cannot see Carfest fitting into Silverstone. I predict a lot of people are going to feel very let down and horrified by what Silverstone will charge punters and outlet franchises alike. Andy

  8. Plenty of room for parking and camping, but most of that is external. But you're right, the development of Escapade and the new kart track has eaten in to the infield and it will be interesting to see what they do with it and what happens to the traditional Classic crowd..
