The title asks the question I'm pondering, because I'm without them. Its a sort of cone that fits within the connection between the original Ducati silencers and the exhaust pipe. From diagrams I have a hunch it is reducing the effective tube diameter at that point. Could it be for, E.g. Intended to restrict flow, or intended to increase silencing effect, or to increase velocity through the silencer and hence backflow and hence power..... etc.. Cheers, John
flow restrictor and thereby muffling sound as well, and if anything muting power. Its just a bit of round bar with a smaller bore hole drilled in it. View attachment image_21f20b44-dc20-444d-938e-66ee05dfa9b7.jpg
Ah cheers for that confirmation Sev. I'll soon be ready to start up, and take to the road, my fresh 900 ss engine bearing rebuild + transplant into former 600ss. It's now all built into a nice rolling frame, apart from final touches to electrics. I notice there were none in my 600ss (single ) exhaust. I have no idea how that may be with a 900ss and wonder how bad the sound might be for the public, or myself. What do you advise... should I start my new build up without them and ride it , or what - like would yo consider them essential, or useful at all? INcidentally, I wonder, were those restrictors part of the very early 900ss machines built for road users? BTW I see your avatar picture, you're looking well, Sev. I think maybe wearing any suit might be good for a change it'll be an early winter I reckon by what my fruit trees told me. .. wood is good... wooden suits are the most comfortable for the journey home, so I am told. Wood's a very nice housing material for earth dwelling I find too.We always preferred them as Anglo Saxons. But its asking alot. Palestinian children just get bulldozed into a pile of rubble, even whilst alive, and that's OK apparently. Cheers, John
I'd just take them out. John. If you've got standard cans on there, then they're baffled to kingdom come anyway, so you don't need them. Interesting you say that, I thought the same, leaves are already turning now.
Ah cheers for the reassurance Sev. Yes, standard cans. Oh yes, The hazel leaves in my garden are brittle already. They make nice music in the wind.
