1260 Locks On Panniers

  1. I recently purchased my second Multi, this time a 1260 2018 (last one was a 1200DVT 2016), and I think it's the most beautiful thing I've ever owned. The Multi I bought was an 'Urban' package bike, came with top box and tank bag. I prefer side panniers, so they are on the way from Ducati. My problem is with the locks on the panniers. Apparently, there should be 2 new lock barrels under the seat, which once inserted into the panniers would allow me to use the same key for all things, but alas they are missing. When I had the same dilemma on my R1200GS, I was able to modify the lock barrels to my bike key by changing the 'wafers' in the lock barrel to match the key. Is this possible on Ducatis? If so, where does one find sets of lock barrel 'wafers' for sale?

  2. Got mine off eBay

  3. fatbob, great to know, what were they called? Lock wafers, tumblers etc?

  4. Set of cylinder locks for the bike
You get 3 cylinders and 2 keys

  5. I'm trying to reconfigure the pannier locks to my ignition key. Are you saying that there are sufficient wafers/tumblers to do this, or were you assuming I wanted one key for the top box and panniers, and the ignition key as a separate key?

  6. Apologies , I just have 2 keys.
I unclip the smaller key when not using my luggage.

  7. If I remember correctly, you'll not be able to get the locks keyed to your ignition key, the locks provided are one of a kind iirc.

I think it's best to buy new barrels with a new key and you'll be left with a pannier key and a ignition key, hopefully I'm wrong though.

  8. Thanks for all the advice, I've ordered a key and lock set, I'll see what the art of the possible is after they arrive. Ignition key plus a luggage key is not so bad, especially as it's keyless!

  9. Paul_B,

Thanks very much for the link, just what I was after. I've done that before for BMW panniers, just need to find some wafers. Looks like they might be the same type as BMW. If so, problem solved!
