Hi all just after a bit of advice or has anyone experienced the same. Was out riding over the weekend was fine all day Saturday and Sunday morning was also fine. In the afternoon I pulled up to some red lights then went to go and the bike started jittering and spluttering on acceleration. Thought it was strange so I pulled into the garage turned the bike off and no error messages thought it was ok. Left the garage and 1 min later she cut out completely on me with ECU in red on the lower dash. Now she will crank over but wont fire. whenever I twist the accelerator the lower dash flashes red ECU. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Adam
It needs to be plugged into diagnostics to read the error messages otherwise anyone will just be guessing as to what’s the cause.
deffo. but you could do some basics. spark and fuel. lots of things will make it run poorly, but cutting out and non start not so much i would of thought. pump priming and correct fuel? getting a spark? a flashing MIL light is often the sign of a misfire on vehicles but when stationary and not running?
Yeah I've got it booked in. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this before so I have an idea what the issue might be.
Defiantly has spark, as for fuel its just regular 95 ron. Would you suggest higher octane? Pump is priming when it wakes up. Just no throttle there at all, soon as you twist it the ecu comes up. Gradually got worse it would tick over just but it was very rough nearly cutting out and now it doesn't run.
no, not the octane rating but the type of fuel, petrol-diesel. or even empty. not that uncommon a fault in the motor trade.
If I had to guess, from your description, I’d guess you’ve a failed MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The flashing ECU light is just telling you the ECU has recorded an error message. If it’s cranking and you’ve definitely got a spark then one of the many sensors the ECU needs information from is faulty and the ECU is getting duff info and thus dosing an incorrect amount of fuel for the situation, hence poor running and then no start.
Agree with the above but, it’s always worth unplugging the ecu and letting it reset itsself (about 10 mins or so). It might not sort the problem out but there’s also a small chance it will. Just make sure not to power the bike on with the ecu removed.
Would the map sensor stop me having any throttle response at all? At the moment twisting it does nothing just throws up ecu code. Thank you for your input.
I've had the battery disconnected for like 30mins but that didn't change anything. How would I go about unplugging the ecu?
If you’re twisting it with the bike turned on but not having started and that throws up an error light I guess you’ve an issue with the the APS (accelerator position sensor) or TPS (throttle position sensor). The APS measures the rider requested input and the ECU then knows how much to open the throttle valves, dependent upon the selected riding mode and a few other factors, which it monitors via the TPS. The only way to tell is to plug it into diagnostics. If you’ve had the battery disconnected that long it’s the same effect. However you can unplug the ECU by removing the big plugs that connect the ECU to the wiring loom.
