I’m not sure you can but think it’s a bit grey… I suspect that’s why the ad is “looking for the owner “ in order to cover themselves
Looked into this a while back, it's rife in the MK1 and MK2 RS world. In short, no, to the best of my knowledge and digging, it's not illegal. Morally reprehensible perhaps? However, look at it another way. Watching a chap "restoring" WW2 warbirds. Not one original part other then perhaps the build plate/engine plate etc. This "restored" aircraft then becomes the original one with wartime provenace.
Does anyone on here know anything about this lightly modified 996 bp - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17737126...0f&cnvId=700003&recoId=177371264095&recoPos=1 A friend is interested in it.
If the mileage is genuine, some of the 4000 odd miles have been on track ridden by someone who knows how to ride and set tyre pressures, looking at the tyre wear. Andy
Yes I agree. And it looks like the limited mods done are aligned with that (exhaust, rear sets, clutch cover, mono seat, probably clutch slave). I'm just wondering if anyone on the forum owns or has owned this bike and can give some more insight.
The wear on those tyres could have happened on just one trackday, that’s not conclusive evidence that it has been a track mule.
As big bikes mostly are, these days. People used to happily commute to work on Fireblades, and indeed I used to, over many miles, on my 748's (prob a bit better than a 916 or 996 for that!). You don't see that much now, and I think that's a shame.
I commuted to work (45-min ride) almost every day for about 4 years on my 916 back in the day. I don't recall ever wishing I had anything different to do the ride on.
Not quite the same league but used to do similar on my KR1S, only thing I would have liked were lights that weren’t just a candle replacement. Some of the lanes in the winter on dark icy mornings were a bit crap.
