Found This In My Tank!

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by NeilH, Aug 7, 2025.

  1. Hi, sorry haven't been on here for ages (life and work getting in the way!) but still have my 748 and 600ss.
The fuel pump on the ss stopped working - have managed to swap that but found this in the tank. Can anyone shed any light on it (the metal bit was in the mesh). It looks like some sort of sacrificial anode but is that a thing in a fuel tank?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks
    Neil

  2. It’s not one of those fuel saver things is it? Almost looks like a fishing weight with that eye on it.

  3. The equivalent of Snake Oil IMO, and claim to do everything from save fuel to add HP.

There would normally be more than 1 lump of metal in them.

  8. as above - many of these were made available when "leaded fuel" became unobtainable with the claim that they would protect valve seats etc at a time when nobody really knew which std engine valve seats would become affected. Although a few were affected (BMC, older engines etc) it turned out to be the engineering equivalent of the Millenium Bug, and most of us sailed on unaffected.

  9. Still, it might knock the rust out of your tank while it rattles about...
