At last had time to fit the Marchesini wheels complete with Dunlop Roadsmart IV’s. Went for a ride with Uncle Baz to bed them in. The tyre fitter had put 36 psi in them which was too much. They felt great, really great and even better once I’d let some air out. V pleased.
Wild camped overnight just down the lane from where I’m enduro’ing today in Kent and woke up to find I have a lovely view over the Thames Estuary
Urgh - I can't locate the trailers thread... What's the make of yours @Zhed46 ? I'm looking at 2-bike trailers for enduro fun...
That’s the thread: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/campervans-with-motorbikes.102586/ It’s an Easylifter Hydratrail. You’d need to modify it to take two bikes though and the max load is 250kg.
You could probably fit a second platform or just replace it with one that’s twice the width. I’m not sure how you’d address the weight limit though as my specialist subject is advisin’ and arguin’ rather than engineerin’.
Only did the morning sesh at Action Trax Enduro today as I fried my clutch just before lunch. Conditions were pretty treacherous as it briefly bucketed it down at about 1030, which didn't do anything to soften the hard packed ruts, but left the tree roots and rocks (of which there were lots) extremely slippery. My tyres also got so clogged with mud at one point that it felt like riding on ice. I was the only rider not to have an off, which either means I'm amazing or I wasn't trying hard enough (almost certainly the latter). One guy didn't even wait for conditions to get tricky as he somehow managed to bin his brand new full bells and whistles GS in the field on his way to the start of the loop and we never saw him again. https://www.actiontrax.co.uk/gallery/
Had a spare hour so stripped the 916 belt pulleys down ready to fit new bearings - sourced these from Bearing King at £18 for the four delivered, so not an expensive job. I don’t have a hydraulic press but the old bearings came out pretty easily using the right size sockets and my large vice. The old bearings actually felt ok, a slight bit of play, but I expect they’re the ones originally fitted in 1994, so I felt worthwhile changing with easy access whilst doing the belts. Bearings / shafts now in the freezer, so hopefully they’ll just drop into the warmed up pulleys in the morning.
Eventually got around to fitting the new chain to the GSXR750 project bike, refitted the battery, had it running through the gears to get the chain settle in, then reset the tension Really do need to pull my finger out and get this bike finished
I repaired my handlebar end, thanks to folk on here. Washed the bike off, it needs another wash, the wheels, chain and sprockets need particular attention.
Dropped the Scrambler of at MR for them to fit a K-Tech fork cartridge kit, an Öhlins rear shock and a Termignoni, homologated end can whilst we are in Spain. Saw a yellow 748R in the showroom and thought, I know that bike and sure enough, it was the one I sold last year in for a service. Damn the bike looked good Andy
I’ve been trying to solve the mystery of my Gas Gas clutch issues. It started slipping at enduro last week so I changed the pack yesterday but now the lever goes solid every now and again. Everything appears to be as it should be so I’m flummoxed. The only thing I can think of is that the pack I fitted might be aftermarket (it was in the box of parts that came with the bike) and according to this afternoon's googling they much prefer OE plates. I also ordered some Maxxis Maxcross IT tyres. The GG came fitted with Pirelli MT43s, which are a trials tyre and the blocks are quite close together so they get clogged up with mud, after which it’s like riding on slicks. They were fine during the hot summer, but with wet weather on the way they had to go…
Fitted a new oil filler cap to the Monster. The old one decided to unscrew itself while out and about, covering pretty much everything on the right hand side with oil, including my other half on the back. Lots of fun degreasing boots, leathers, helmets, bike... First time it has ever happened, no idea why it did, it has been months since I last took it off, and it's now cable tied on so it's going nowhere.
Ive got 3 seats for the hyperstrada. The original strada version (crap) the original hypermotard version (also crap) and the performance seat which is great for moving about on when having fun dowb b roads but not so good for touring. So ive set out to get the stock hypermotard seat redone to have more cushion to see if that helps. Going friday to test it before the cover is stappled on. Got sent this today
