One Step Forwards, Two Steps Back!

  1. Ho hum, taught my boy how to change the oil on the Supersport engine, and then when it came time to fire her up.... Fuel pump u/s!!

    I am pretty sure the pump was new when I built the bike, and I didn't put too many miles on her, but a solid no-go! but on checking the wiring against another SS tank, that pump worked when connected to my bike.

    The low fuel light came on too with my tank, so I dont think its the power feed. So onto eBay order a new one.

    Never fear says I let's sort the brakes out...... Nada, no brake fluid getting down to the calipers. Nice 19/20 radial pump... Buggered rubbers methinks! Never fear I have another, not so snazzy but still radial.... DOT 4 getting down to the callipers....yipee. Dot 4 leaking out of the pump....boo!

    I have one more OEM radial... A silver one off a Later 916 or suchlike. I also gave a gorgeous AP racing radial pump... But that definitely needs new o-rings.

    And finally I have a NOS brembo competition radial pump, but I don't want to use that on this bike!

  4. Help!!!

    I'm stumped :( When I built the bike I put in new fuel lines, filled the tank and she fired up first time.

    I have just fitted a new fuel pump and fuel filter, changed the fuel lines..... and no fuel is getting through... I have aboslutely no idea why the fuel isnt flowing :( The engine runs, we have had it running on a gravity fed service tank.

    There seems to be an airlock in the fuel lines but surely a fuel pump would push the fuel through? Should I get a syringe and fill the fuel lines thay way. and then hook it back to the tank? will the fuel start coming through by suction, if I manage to get the engine started?

  5. Your first port of call is if the pump is running. Apply 12v to the pump safely and see if it makes noise. If it does then connect it back up turn on the ignition and see if it makes noise. From there it is a process of elimination.

    When you give 12v to the pump directly if there is no noise. It might be stuck, this can happen with an airlock. Look up how to solve this it is not too hard.

  6. I had the same problem, I could hear the pump working, but no fuel flowing. With the two separate connections it turned out that it’s possible to connect them so the pump runs backwards. Swap the connectors to the opposite terminals on the pump and you should be OK.

  7. Yes the pump works, First thing I did before fitting it into the tank was to connect it up.
     
  8. Hi, yes I saw your reply to a previous member's thread explaining this. obviously when I fitted the tank originally I was lucky to get it right first go :D

    This time I looked at the connectors, one being bent slightly, the other being straight, and I thought, aha that one obviously goes there on the left and that one there on the right, and I believe I was right....however that was without realising that when I removed them I didn't look at the orientation of the pump itself...doh!!!

    This is obviously easily rectified but now I have to tackle that god-awful fuel cap seal again.... Arrrrggggghhhhh :sob:

  9. That was indeed the problem. ..and now I know for the future, thanks.:upyeah:

    Fired up for the first time under its own power and fuel in around 12 years. :blush:

    Had to change the rear brake pump, but still having massive problems bleeding both front and rear brakes. :rolleyes:
