Hi New to Forum. Looking for some help. Bought those recently and have very little info on where they came and what they are. Any experts to help? Usually ohlins billets stamping starts with FG … my have , what I think date of manufacture please see pictures. Is this genuine ohlins billets? Previous owner had them fitted on he’s 998r. I want to fit them on my 998. What offset I need for break discs? Any wheel spacers? I believe callipers 108mm required
call these folks they will know https://bgmotorsport.co.uk/pages/about-bg-motorsport met them at goodwood fos this year - super friendly and will know more about ohlins than most
For a start yes they are 108 calliper spacing so new bigger callipers. I don’t get why you would buy one item and not have a plan of what sizes they are, what diameter yokes are required, what length they are to suit ride height, what spindle size is required. let alone then the offset of the callipers which will then relate to what wheel you are using and then what spacers or offset on discs are required to centre line them . Bottom line is anything fits anything with enough time thought and ultimately money but it is a complete plan … If tge previous owner had them in a 998r then you need everything he had to make the above simple .
hi, I am sure it’s easier to buy Forks and make the rest work around it rather than buy wheel and callipers and then look for forks to suit them for months or years..? Maybe I am wrong but I realised it’s not easy to find bits for those bikes any more in regards to front end ohlins. Guy who sold me forks advertised that it fits 996/998 and all R models.. so where did I went wrong? Please help!
Mr B can be a bit blunt but the biggest clue is the 108mm caliper mount spacing, Ducatis of that period had 65mm spacing. I’m long in the tooth now and very cynical, I never take the seller’s description at face value, it’s often misleading or just downright inaccurate. If I was in your position today and couldn’t get the seller to take them back, I’d identify what bike the forks came from, move them on, described correctly and look for the right ones. Trying to find all the parts to make them work for your bike is a major pain in the proverbial. Andy
Depends on what you want and how you want it too look. Given you are going for radials, as a pose to historically correct axials, prolly because axial Öhlins for this era of bikes are like hen's teeth then yeah if you want the Ö enough, you can make a parts bin special. But if you wanna keep the original look wheels, and things, it's a lot harder. Like busses (more later) I looked a long time for a set of axial Öhlins (from a superbike) for my 900SS restomod and essentially gave up and bought a set from an RSV, They proved to be a bit of a pain to fit ultimately as the fork tops were 51mm and I found out way down the line that the milly's front hubs are 5mm wider than Duc's (doh!). I had to get new yokes (was planning on this anyway but needed extra custom spec) and a new UP7X front wheel. However seeing as this is my dream custom project bike restomod, and I can use the old UP7X on another bike, I went with it. And back to the busses, as soon as I had got that lot together I think two sets of nice 9x6/8 Öhlins radials came up for sale in quick succession, doh! ETA pic for posterity (sorry bout ths shite quality but every bastard time I try to post a decent image it gets blocked for being too big... I guess I'm learning why @buzzer 's pics are so low res over on ms) )
My point is you work out all together what is required rather than get a set of forks based on what a stranger told you and then ask a question about disc offset. You would of been better just getting a complete front end off of a 1199 and putting non electric fgrt in there… Or Getting a set of ohlins for a 998 and changing the bottom feet to radial .. your real elephant in the room will be your speedo drive!
Bingo! I fixed that long before with a gps clock and my problem was going to be making the speedo drive go away and still look good, thankfully due to needing the new front wheel, I got the original spec milly spacers with the wheel from Dymag and that had no speedo drive so all good albeit ££££
What about 999 ohlins non electric, same size yokes, same length and stroke, same front spindle adapt the front mudguard. but still a speedo drive issue.
was it from an ebay seller in Leicester who sells lots and lots of forks and Ducati parts by any chance? The feet on the forks are an old SCP design (I recognise the machining marks and also the design) to be fitted to an Ohlins fork. So lets try and help you out... My guess by the look is that they're 108mm - please confirm. Also if you have standard forks in your bike you may need new yokes, you won't know until you measure the bottom yoke fitment area on these forks. The reason I'm asking is because they might not be a Ducati fitment fork originally or have been built as a bespoke fork by the previous owner. Do you have a set of Vernier calipers?
that’s exactly the attitude I am looking for! positive thinking! I have other set of Ohlins forks from 1198sp which I was advised will fit ! So no problem if one don’t fit, I will fit others !
