749 749 (base Model) 59m Ecu To 749s 5am Ecu

  1. Hello all,
So I recently replaced the 749 motor I had in my 2003 base model bike (59m ecu). I replaced it with a 2004 749s motor. I was thinking I could simply remap my 59m ecu with a map from a 749s but I'm realizing that the 2004 and on 749s maps come off a 5am (because the cams and valves are bigger on the S models) ecu and the maps are not interchangeable between the two ECUs.

Q1- Is there a way to utilize my 59m ecu and somehow add a 749s map from a 2004+ on it?

Q2- Or do I get a 5am ecu and map it with a 2004+ map? I hear 848,1098,1198 ECUs are all IMMO virgins or only certain ones, is that correct?

This ECU dilemma is the last thing I need to get under control to get my bike running again, besides the tps reset, and throttle bodies sync'd. I have the comm and fiat adapter cables along with the free software to read/ write the maps. Any/all help would be appreciated.

  2. You cannot flash 5AM maps onto 59M ECUs.

An ECU off an 848/1098/1198/SF/HM would fit the bill.

TuneECU (an Android App) will give you access to 749S maps for the 5AM.

  3. That sounds about rite. Thanks for responding. Somebody reached out to me with a 59m 749s DP map and said the map was for a 749s with an exhaust and that it would run somewhat rich, but would work. What do you think? Would it be safe to use with a stock exhaust, although I do have DNA airfilters, will that balance out the issue some (and possibly Invest in a PC?)? Or just invest in 5AM ecu and get a 749s basemap?

  4. It would run but the fuelling would be too rich. Give it a try. Guzzidiag writer should write to your 59M.

  5. Would it be too rich to run safety/ comfortable?

    • Reduced Power:
The engine may feel sluggish and lack horsepower, especially at higher RPMs.
    • Fuel Smell:
A noticeable smell of unburned fuel or gas from the exhaust is a common sign.
    • Black Smoke:
Black smoke coming from the exhaust is a direct indicator of excess fuel.
    • Fouled Spark Plugs:
The excessive fuel can leave deposits on the spark plug, making it inefficient and causing misfires.
    • Difficulty Starting:
The engine may be harder to start, especially when it's hot, because it requires less fuel when warm.
    • Poor Throttle Response:
You may experience sputtering or hesitation when you accelerate.
    • Poor Fuel Efficiency:
The bike will use more fuel than necessary, requiring more frequent refueling.
    • Struggling at Higher Elevations:
The engine will run worse at higher altitudes where air is less dense, further increasing the fuel-to-air ratio.

  6. Oh man, that is very discouraging. I may just upgrade to an 2008-1098R ecu i saw on ebay for about 250$ (IAM 5AM.BS/HW610), would that ecu work? I have a 5am BIN map for a 749s .
