but a bit silly as tyres that width can never be put to effective use on a car that size, even in 4WD electric guise. I was earlier trying to find the Alfa-lover who was based at Lower Sunbury who demonstrated a similarly-booted Giulia Sprint GTA at Brooklands a couple of decades ago. Admittedly the track was damp but it was embarrasing to watch as he repeatedly tried to floor this (obviously very powerful) brute.
If I remember correctly, there is one of those in the Alfa museum near Milan. Only the Italians could build something so whacky, yet at the same time stylish as that.
In 1913 was it wacky? Curved glass windscreen & 60hp, it was like something in their dreams surely? Amazing finish to the metal too... PS Here's a pic of the competition. Its a horse carriage, without a horse.
RIP last year - 2.5 V6, had it 15 years & over 200k km, but finally became the burden they all do, went to a good home though.
I hired this beauty a couple of years ago in Naples. Unfortunately it was not really in a rentable condition but boy i have never had such attention as when driving around the coast roads and towns of the Amalfi.
Beautiful. I must really try harder when hiring cars abroad and not just go for the Golf or similar option.
I always had suspicions about the guy that ran this little rental business, very friendly but.... The ignition key for this old Alfa was so worn that it was basically irrelevant and the car could be started with anything that you could vaguely point at the ignition switch. It also had no affect on the boot lock which was therefore always unlocked. Hi said to me ' don't worry, nobody will mess with this car'. And he was right, we left the car at a hotel underground car park overnight for example with the roof down and it was unmolested. It was the same everywhere we went.
He was well known thats for sure. When the car got to be undriveable we stopped at a very cool hotel in Sorrento to ask if the concierge could direct us to his address. we had been driving around for 45 minutes unable to find it. As soon as i said we had some trouble with a little grey Alfa, the concierge didn't need any more info he just picked up the phone and said to the person on the other end '... your car is broken come and sort it out'. I dont remember the name he called him but he knew exactly who to phone. The picture is not one of mine by the way, its from their website. the car is still in use and available. Shame it broke for us
