Hi guys 2016 1200 dvt I don’t have the service book to hand and I’m trying to find what age you change the belts on? Various years I’m finding on google so thought I’d ask straight on here! We’re looking at one for a friend and the bikes had the desmo and belts done at 12k miles but was in 2021, thr bikes only done 4K more but thinking on age now if it’s coming up due?
Perfect thanks buddy that’s what I’ve found but did read some forum posts saying 2-3 years but sure they’re other older Ducati’s! So this one’s been done in 21 and only done 3k miles, so probably best to get it done sooner than later especially if it’s been sat about a lot last few years!
Why, do you think they’re hard to do buddy? I haven’t replaced one myself but looks easy enough to do once timed up?
No timing marks as such plus ideally you need a diagnostic tool to verify the phase variator positions are where they should be before and after and that they move as they should once the job’s done and the engine is running again. However it’s not impossible to do.
You can't get one of the belt covers off so it's awkward to remove the belt. The amount of crap pieces of fairing you have to remove is beyond a joke. And as @West Cork Paul says there aren't any timing marks so dont turn the engine once you have marked the belts and pulleys. I made up a tool to be able to adjust the rear belt as access is limited.
cool thanks buddy, doesn't look too bad just fiddly more than anything! have you got the diagnostic tool mentioned above to verify the phase variator positions or is it really needed if you make sure everything is absolutely timed up to where it was before you swapped the belts out?
