  1. Good evening. Newby here……new to Ducatis.. I have a 650 r rice cooker and many many fantics. Anyway this is my new scoot..its in Thailand…Udonthani…..( wife has a flat nose) its a 2012.. the ducati, not the wife… and has 17000 km. I paid 1780€ and it needs work. As the house is in Udonthani….. nothing but rice fields…I need to prepare… taking all bits I need for next trip….or is there a go to guy in LOS for Monsters?

Chainkit looks fine, I will buy brake pads and oil with filter as a matter of course.

    1. Belts will be changed. Do I need a cam locking tool. I am versed in engine rebuilds…doing the belt is within my capabilies. Should I buy new rollers as a precaution? Can I just buy good bearings and press them all out? Input needed please
    2. Front fork seals are weeping. I see no chrome damage. Anybody have seal sizes? I like to use skf seals. Are these plain chrome in alloy or do they have one or two bushes each size? Anybody have sizes? Replace or will be ok? Do the forks come apart with a rattle gun? Some need a holding tool poked down from the top.
    3. should i check and replace swingarm and shock bearings?
    4. Bike obviously needs tyres…I was thinking Pirelli Rosso II… whats your take
    5. The bike comes with one key. Its a 2012. Is the key coded to the ecu or do I just get one cut
    6. I wiant to buy the gert big axle nut sprocket. Are all Ducs the same…i did not find one for a 796. ( logbook says 795.. which is a smaller 796. Nut i thought 795 did not have one sided swingarm
    7. If I take off the ugly endcans, maybe put on some sc project or other endcan… with it need a remap? Are they mapppable at all?
    8. What engine oil should I be looking to use
    9. Should I be changing the fuel tank pump filters?
    10. I would like to check cam follower clearance. Do I buy a box of shims from ducati? I would check these when the belts are off
    11. Came with only one ket and no card…what options do I have to get a new key?

Did I miss anything? All useful input most welcome. Thx in advance for any and all replies.

No need for locking tool. Belt change is easy peasy. Dunno about bearings, didn’t need any on my M1100 last time (around 12500 miles)

    Dunno

Check and regrease but should be fine at that age

    Your preference

Don’t lose the one you have.

796 is small axle- 46mm socket I think.

  10. I believe this bike uses the M3C ECU. Not one I have worked with. They can be reflashed.
